Hello all
I am new member and I own a 00 ZR Black, only mods done to car are 17inch rims, K & N Airfilter and King Springs. I am looking at putting a chip into the celica. Has anyone done this and if yes what type of power gain do you get and how much does it cost? Does anyone know if a chip can be put into the stock computer or will I have to purchase an aftermarket one? Any info will be appreciated.

You'll need a piggy back computer for the ecu. Apparantley Toyota ecu's can't be chiped because they are not removable and are permentaly soldered onto the circuit board.
Maybe try Unichip. I remeber they cost something like $1300-1500 installed and tuned. Can't think of other ones I'd buy at the moment.
I got aboout 5kw increase at the wheels peak and about 6+ in the midrange with a aftermarket replacement ecu. Look in the dyno section of the website for my scanned dyno of the gains from inatke and exhaust +ecu.
Also remeber when you take it in for a service they will probably void your warranty for your engine for any possible mechanical failures that might occur from the ecu mods. They'll find out when they plug in the dianostic tool and get any abnormal readings from the ecu when you take it in. Just something to consider.

Thanks M Spec....info has been of great help. I'm not so sure I want to chip it now if I'm only gonna get an extra 5kw of power for $1500.00. I think I'll just wait a bit longer and save up for a turbo instead! After you chipped your sx did you notice the power gain while driving?

The Apex'i product is better. But nigainazr hasn't got an exhasut yet so I thought he would'nt want to go to a expesive ecu upgrade like me. My purpose was adjustabilty for more agressive aftermarket cams.
But new few months I'm going the supercharged route. Tired of waiting for good NA parts to get released or the lack of support for it, more like it.
In reply, car does feel stronger and more responsive. Also I had the rev limiter raised to 8500rpm. So the car is quicker. Its a low to flat 6 sec car for 0-100km/h now compared to when I G-tech'd it with a 6.5 sec run with only a intake.

M Spec what type of supercharger u gonna put in...the blitz one?? Do you know whta the extra power gain will be and how much it cost's?

I'm planning to purchase the blitz superchager kit in about 3 months time. It will be very expensive. I'm estimating about $11000 at least, installed/tuned, drive away.
Expected power output, about 190 something kw at the flywheel and about 248Nm of torque not including a exhaust which should bump it up a bit more.

Platnm, you should be able to get it down to somehting about the high 6 to low 7 seconds, I reckon with stock setup on a G-Tech for -100km/h. I've never had a proper chance test it out on 1/4 on the streets. Slip the clutch 4000-4500 rpm and redline all the way to 8300rpms. The thing you need to practice the most is the 1-2nd gear change for your revs to land on the 2nd cam.

ok thanks for the tip mspec.
one thing that may slow me is the 17inch wheels (bigger diameter) and the sub box (weight). anyhows, when i get gtech again ill give it a go, cause its not mine

Hey platnm, don't get a computer chip yet.... ur car still no need to change a new chips, u should do more mod in ur engine
then u will get a LOTS of power gain from the ECU,
well i think APEXI is a really good ECU, and it cost 2200 and a Commander cost 500 and Dyno tune cost extra 500. In brisbane.
Hey ppl!
Just wanted to find out if anyone knows where i can get a AEM intake within Australia or New zealand (or somewhere close)?? I checked the freight cost if shipped from the US and its quite ridiculous almost as much as the intake itself :P
Any help would be appreciated
Thanx

mmm are u thinking of getting a JAP Import exhaust or a custom made exhaust? and also for the Cold Air Induction, is that mean a Air filter? i am sorry my english is not good, because i am from Hong Kong.
anyway, if u are thinking of changing the Air Filter pls dont' buy a TRD 1, because is just a BIT better then the factory 1. I used that before, and i reckon is no good. I am not using K&N filter, and is really good it cost about 110 AUD dollar.
Also for the Jap Import exhaust, i recommand the HKS HI-power muffler, it is quite in the low RPM and loud in the high RPM. and power gain better then the TRD one.
Pls trust my comment because i have try those product in my own car :)
Anyway, is better to get a SAFC after u mod ur exhaust and airfilter.
anyway where about u live in AUS?

i live in sydney.
just one question bout HKS.
i hear it is expensive, how much u think it would cost.
is that full system or just rear muffler?? i was thinking of getting custom exhuast locally
M SPEC

HKS is more expensive than say Apex'i generally because it prices it products to reflect is brand name "worth". I think the kit sells about 1200-1400 Range, don't qoute me on that. Just email or call BD4's (HKS Distrubutor in Australia).
Apprantley LarryD (the owner of newcelica.org) claimed it was too quiet for him. Also in SCC magazine (Sport Compact Car) the power results were lower than the RMM exhaust system which is similar to the TRD exhiast system when testing on a dynojet dyno.
Generic HKS mufflers should set you back like in the $400-600 price range depending on the style.
All the kits are really axle back systems ie look under your car to see where the flange is near the start of the back wheel. Not Full systems ie from the extractors to the muffler. I reckon get a brand name tip you like and get the piping done at a local exhaust shop.

thanks mspec. just one question... have u heard of a muffler brand called BUN JL? any ideas if this is a good muffler?
i love the looks of it

I've seen alot of guys have JUN BL mufflers on their cars here in SA. I think they look quite good as well. Similar in design to Tanabe muffler style. Not a bad alternative to the Japanese brands. I think they are manufactured in Korea.
