there is a wiring harness but it is not available yet i just installed a premeir 340 (4 chanel) and rewired the car it sounds great don't even have to get new speakers - much better then all three stock amps put together

nah...from what I knew we had a 6 channel amp or something like that. But I have seen the amp just behind the glove box.....

Are the cross overs for the stock speakers located in the stock amp, or are they externally mounted somewhere? I would think running full range to the little mid-high speaker and tweeter would not be to great for it :(

well the tweeter has this thing that looks like a resistor or something attached to it......like a "bass blocker" and for the smaller speakers I assume comes from the amp...

To answer your question.... yes you can use your stock amp with your aftermarket h/u. But.... it will sound bad. The speakers will be overpowered. At low volume the static will be very noticeable, but if you turn up the volume, it overpowers the static. We only have one amp.. which powers all 8 speakers. As of right now, there is no harness available for the premium sound system. And the harness from the new h/u will be too short to reach the amp. So you're going to have to extend the wires to reach the amp. Its not too hard to do. But, if you dont wanna cut/splice wires, then you're going to have to wait for a harness.

You could try geting a H/U that only has pre-amped output and see if you can wire that to the stock amp.

Personally, I've kept the stock setup except I adding a sub-woofer, changed the tweaters, and added an aftermarket 6 disk changer. Those changes took care of the week points of the car, and I think it sounds just great, although probably not quite as good as a high end compatition style system.

here's is the solution to a lot of q's about this topic.....(from experience).....ok i hooked my Alpine h/u up to all of my speakers.....

we only have one amp and that is behind the glove box as many others have stated earlier.....

also, like some else stated, don't run the aftermarket h/u w/ the factory amp.....that will put out way too much power for our stock speakers......plus, almost all, if not all, aftermerket h/u have a built in amp on it......the a/m h/u should supply enough power to run all speakers sufficiently......

there's no harness as far as i know to hook up the a/m h/u to the factory speakers, so.....what you'll have to do is this...

1) Detach the harness running from the factory amp to to all speakers....(Leave the factory a lone now cuz it is now useless)....and just leave the harness that runs to the speakers be for now.....
2) (I assume you know how to install your a/m h/u).....from the h/u, you have to splice extra wiring from the four channels that is provided by the h/u to the harness that connects to the speakers...
3) From the h/u, there is only four outputs, meaning that there is four sets of wires( usually, solid purple, green, gray, white, which are positive connectives).....(the same colors above but with a black line through them are negative connectives).....Four sets for Front Right......FL....RR......RL......
4) So that only accounts for four of the eight speakers that we have right, well true....thats where the wiring comes in to play...
5) Connect about 2 1/2 to 3ft of wire splice from the h/u and run it under the passenger carpet or behind the glove box (to be neat).....and connect them to the harness the runs to the speakers......(sorry i dont exactly know off the top of my head which port is for which speaker)....do some trial and error....(it wont hurt anything)....
6) Be sure you remember what wires are negative and positive, becuase that will hurt the speakers in the long run.....and from the trial and error job, you should be able to identify the FL, FR, RR, and RL speakers....if you don t do that then the balance and fader options on the h/u will be pointless.....

Ok as far as my wiring went, i wired the two rear speakers by themselves....using the rear right and rear left ouputs......the front six speakers were wired by the remainning two outputs....since the front 6in speakers are coaxials i wired it directly.....but for the tweeters....i ran a set of different splices(from the same ouput though)to the tweeters and within that splice, i put a set of bass blockers in.......

if this does not sound clear to you, which it might not, feel free to email me at b_vaj2001@yahoo.com

all in all.....my system sound ok......good for factory.....but im still waiting for my JL upgrade.......

SORRY FOR SUCH A LONG, LONG POST.......

If you want a changer look for a used toyota changer on ebay.
Several models will fit. Hell, I just looked and there is one from a celica for sale now, one day left.

Make sure the cable comes with. It ain't cheap from the dealer.

Also, keep your eyes open in the NCO "for sale" forum. That's where I got mine for $150 :)

ps: I was not paid for this endorsement.

i havent heard of any 'hurting' to the speakers if you connect +/- wrong. it will only put the speaker 'out of phase' and it'll sound weird.
