What the hell is up with this sh!t

i keep having problem getting my car into second gear when im racing or practicing the 1-2 shift.
i never have this problem with 3rd 4th ect...
the weird thing is i can drive hard and always land the shift for two weeks.
the something happens to my car and it wont go into gear.
i was driving perfectly yesterday and then today when i was racing my friends 94 300zx( intake,exhuast) i could not get it into gear and its so frustrating.
the entire week last week it was fine and perfect but today it wont go in?
what should i do?
i know its just not in my head because it just wont go in, like somethings blocking it.
it happens for a few days or more and then it goes back to shifting very easily and consistently.
whats up with this sh*t???
i lost the race by 1 car, because i couldn't shift fast enough and the launch right, by the way.
this makes me so mad
when i go above 8k it wont go in but its fine if i shift right before the second cam(6000k).

It may be the synchro, but the inconsistency sounds scary... Might want to take it into the dealer...

you dont think they'll say anything about the Short shifter?
thats the only thing i think they would care about.
ive taken it to the dealer before and they dont say anything about the lowering or the intake.
so i go in and i tell them whats happening?
i tell them i cant shift into second when im at redline?
you think they'll say that the will fix it if im driving it to redline?

i tell them that im pretty sure the 2nd gear synchro is shot and that i need to get it replaced...
what does this cost if i need to do it out of pocket?

i just went driving again and it would shift sometimes and the other times just would not go in.


can people tell me how they got there synchros covered under warranty and at which toyota dealership, that might help.

hmm why did buy a gts?
to take it over 6k right?
i would of bought a gt if i wanted to drive it normally.
the gts's engine is useless if you dont take it over 6000rpm period.

can someone actually help me out with this instead of saying i shouldn't race...

I had the exact same problem (I have B&M SS)

It got to the point that if the car was just sitting there I sometimes couldn't get into 2nd gear.

I took the car to the dealer and they kept it for a few hours to check it out. When I got the car back they said they could find nothing wrong and could not duplicate the problem. It is happened again they suggested putting the original shifter back in.

...you know, I haven't had a problem since (and that was about 4 months ago)

I think they mucked about a bit and fixed the problem.

I had this problem too. But I don't have a SS, just the stock shifter. If I took it to redline, then I couldn't shift into 2nd. But it's inconsistent. I'm not sure if it's all in my head but no one really had any ideas as to what it is. Let me know if you find out what the problem is. Good luck.

its not the shifter because this was happening when i had my stock shifter.
i dont know what to tell them without them calling it abuse.
i know its not in my head.
when i shift at that point it get really stiff(if that makes sense).
it seams when i try to take it out of 1st gear everything gets stiff and then i try to put it into second and it wouldn't go in.

this is making me mad
how much does it cost for a new synchro?
and do you guys think i need one?
any help from a expert or someone that had this problem(larry, jason)

Doesn;t sound like my synchro problem. Mine was grinding. Yours is just blocking it out. Similar to when I am at a light and it wont go into first. Something like that anyways. Is it only doing that when you take it to 8100rpms? Thats past redline, so technically they could call abuse. It'll be hard duplicating the problem without looking irratic. Anyways, Good luck!

Also watch the way you shift...

I have noticed that when a person is shifting more aggressively they tend to either shift differently or hold the shifter a different way.

I have caught myself missing second because I pulled the shifter down and left instead of straight down.

Same thing used to happen to me. I couldn't get into second when I was driving real aggressive. I started paying a lot of attention to how I shift and noticed I would pull slightly to the left. It almost felt like I was getting caught on the gate leading to reverse. Hasn't happened in a long time since I started being very precise about my shifts.

...exactly. That was causing some of my problem.

However, there were times when my car was parked in my garage and I could not shift into 2nd. (with or without the engine running)

I also noticed that it happened mostly when the car was cold or had been sitting for several hours.

isn't it weird that it happens weekly?
one week i can shift into second fine and the next i cant at all.
ill go driving and report back how it goes.
i focus more on shifting correctly also.
