Hi All,

I need some advice about whether to fight a speeding ticket or not. I was caught going 83 mph in a 65 mph zone.

This was along a major four lane highway on a clear night in good conditions with light traffic. The problem is I stumbled into a speed trap.

My question is whether it is worth while to fight my $279 ticket for a first time offense. Does anyone have any experience that they can share? Stories concerning how people successfully repealed their tickets will be highly appreciated.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations about a radar/lidar detector? Which brand/model is best? Is it worthwhile to get one (seeing that I have a "need for speed")?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Fight the points. Pay more if you have to.

Valentine-One: $400

Thanks for the reply.

The police officer said that there would be no points assessed on my license if the ticket is paid since it is classified as "speeding" and not "reckless driving" (a more serious offense). Is that correct? By the way, I live in Connecticut (which may have different motor vehicle laws).

Hey,

I also recently got a ticket for doing 60 in a 45, the find was going to be 175 or something around there... I don't know if it is worth the time fighting the ticket. Especially if it's your first offense. Usually they reduce the fee by a lot and you can just go to traffic school.

I went to court and just pleaded guilty. Got it reduced to 90 bucks and traafic school only cost 31 instead of the 170 something.

It's really your choice if you want the trouble. Just giving you my own experiences.

Loves2Rev,

Some guy posted a site a while back about speeding laws in Cali

http://www.ticketassassin.com/fight.html

I forwarded it to a few friends. This week, the cheapest bastard I know called me up and told me he is giving me a free dinner because he used the methods on that website and he just received a case dismissed letter. He did a left on a red.

fight the power!

sorry alexerwu, this doesn't help you much though

Dood where was the trap? I live in Meriden, havent seen one lately, and I drive way too fast for my own good. I got Bel 980 that seems to work real well, but you got to drive smart with it ,use technique. Only go fast if you got traffic ahead of you, cause if your alone your screwed, you will be the first one they clock.Look in your rear view all the time they sneek up sometimes, and also look way ahead for brake lights and Troopers coming up on ramps.Good luck with your ticket.

In other words ... instead of obeying the speed limit and not breaking the law ... break the law and drive paranoid as hell ... be on edge at all times ...

:annoyed

The trap is under a bridge near exit 63 on I-84 W. Apparently this is a well know speed trap (I did some research on the 'net). I just bought an Escort 8500 on Ebay for $250. These few days have been pure hell driving at the speed limit! ;)

Ive got you all beat. two weeks after getting my celica i got pulled over going 83 in a 35. Four cop cars pulled me over, and were trying to say that I was running from them. I argued out of that charge, but not the $520 ticket and possible five point...I am still waiting for my court date. im screwed, but oh well, its my fault for being a moron,
