View Full Version : "Thumping" noise in rear end when I brake

Sometimes, when I come to a stop, I hear a kind of "thump" in the rear end of the car. I don't know what it is. And, it doesn't happen every time. Also, sometimes I can hear a bit of noise from the pads on the rotors.

Anybody know what's going on? I'm heading back to the dealer next week to have him listen to it. It just started a week or so ago and, to my knowledge, the car hasn't been hit by anything (I park in a garage in Chicago with valets who are pretty typical: They're not the most considerate drivers, if you know what I mean).

Thanks.

Hey do you get the noise when you are coming to a stop as you back up or when you come to a stop going forward? Cuz I sometimes get a thumping noise as I come to a stop going backward, but not forward.

Is this something that Toyota will fix under warranty? Also, those things on the recall lists that apply to my specific car, does warranty cover everything? Thanks.

i've only noticed it when moving forward but it could happen in reverse, too.

i'm going to the dealer next week and will have them listen to it. i really don't know what it is and i just noticed it in the last few weeks. i'll let you guys know what they think it is.
