2001 GTS vs. 2002 GTS

I will be buying a Celica GTS very soon. I'm wondering which would be a better choice, the 2001 or 2002 GTS. Should I get the 2001 mainly bevasue the rev limiter on the 2002 is too low???

I know that if I was in the market for the GT-S I would go with a 2001, or possibly wait for a 2003, where the rev problem will be fixed. I know it must be annoying to never be able to rev to redline for all those 2002 owners out there, so I would definitely not get a 2002.

Where did you hear that the rev limit will be fixed on 03's? If they do they just picked the wrong guy to f@ck with.

On topic however if you can get a 01' you won't regret it. Just make sure its never been misshifted.

I'd go with a 2002. These cars have delicate engines, long break-in periods, and tricky shifters. I wouldn't be comfortable with a used model considering the kinds of idiots who may be likely to buy these cars. I gotta figure a fair number of them were taking the things up to 8k the first day, or shifting poorly, or just generally beating on the car.

As I understand it, the shifter was improved slightly with wider gates for 02, which hopefully makes it harder to mis-shift. I don't pretend to be perfect, so that's a big plus to me.

It looks to me like the Celica is still the best car to drive some winding mountain roads in, or go to the occasional autox with, for the money. But I dunno if I'd want a used one unless I knew the previous driver.
