View Full Version : About coilover max lowering

Just had my KW coilovers installed and in the shop they told me they lowered all round at the recommended maximum, though in fact there's still like 0.20" more to be lowered front and about 0.80" more rear. Supposedly, the manufacturer does not recommend to go into that "final lowering stage" due to the fact that in certain conditions it could cause the strut to reach its compression limit and thus contribute to premature wear or even serious damage.
Any thoughts about this? Is it really risky if I decide to go with FULL lowering? How about going, say, half of the remaining lowering distance?
Thanks! :)

I would recommend going by the manufacturer's specs and get them tuned from a good shop. Going any lower than those specs and driving on the crappy streets we live (they are good sometimes and a load of s88t everywhere else on everyroad in the US) could result in premature wear and failure. For daily driving and some track use go by the factory settings or better have a good shop go by those and settup your suspension to your needs (ride height, alignment, corner weighting/balancing).
Remember the lower you go and drive around on public streets the worse the ride and they will wear more quickly.
By the way, your alignment will be off if you raise or lower your car.

Your definately going to need a camber kit. I dont recommend lowereing the car more than 2 inches, suspension geometry will be all wacked up. And llook for a good set of shocks/struts with a shorter tube(designed for lowered cars) it really helps the car and the feeling of a lowered car.
