Personally I would get a 2001 model. If you're going stick, the 2002 has a rev limiter that quite a bit of ppl on these boards aren't too happy about (search the fora for more info). However if you are going with the 6-spd you should thoroughly learn how to drive it and avoid blowing your engine. If you go with auto, they are fairly quick but don't expect them to be racing demons (hey it's all about looks, right?).
Personally I'm satisfied with my 2K1 GT Auto. It gets me around. Already 7K on it in the 3 months I've owned it. Yeah, I do hella driving with it, but I've had no problems whatsoever as far as under the hood.
You can check out the specs for each model by navigating around this site.

I don't know about your solara, but looking back to cover the blind spots are bad. You have to adjust your side mirrors in just a way to cover these places. Other than that. ABSOLUTELY no complaints.
Take a looked at my wrecked Celica pics. My fiancee's little brother wreck the previous celica she had, and so we decided to buy another. Why? He left the hospital with only a broken leg and his jaws wired.
