I drove one of these last thursday. It was black and I really loved how it looked, especially with the red and black cloth "lava" interior. It was comfortable, and the sound system was nice, though I didn't play with it much so I couldn't tell how good it could be at its fullest potential.

I'll be honest to say that I wasn't very impressed with the power of the car. Sure, I didn't do a clutch drop off the line or anything, but I did manage to accelerate hard a few times from 1st to 3rd.. the car did have some nice pull once you mashed the throttle.. but as soon as the fun started you had to shift!! I'm not complaining that it doesn't have a stratospheric redline like a celica or s2000.. .but with its fullest Hp coming right before the rev limiter... its kind of unfullfilling. All I'm saying is the car did not have a point in the power band that gave any real sense of a surge or power... just a little umph and then bland bland shift!

The gear box felt ok.. but I found it very hard to find second most of the time...

I still like the car.. but I thought it would have more to offer with such a highly touted engine... But its still a great car for the money!

actually most the spec v makes peak hp at 5800rpms unlike 6k they say. (dyno proven) and most stock tachs are off about 2-400rpms. fuel cutoff is supposed to be 6200 but mine doesnt kick in till 6500rpms.

I agree the gearing in short but life isnt about 0-60.

P.S my car has been getting faster with more miles

thats because i heard unlike honda nissan doesnt partially prebreak in engines. I dunno if thats true, but it sounds close enough. I know some people who get 150 at the wheels in their spec v and were rated at 141 before you know? 150 after break in that is.

Peter, didn't you posted that people should post things in the right forum? This has nothing to do with a Celica so bring it to Off Topic. Don't get mad at me, I'm just going by your rules.

Hey, you're right. This actually used to be anyting car related.. but I guess its only celica related now.. I haven't checked the forum description in a while. I never had a problem wth people posting car info in here unless it was covered by the other forums.. and car reviews have always beeen a gray area.. but hey, if it will make everyone feel better..

I'm gunna move my own topic :D

Even the new QA25DE cars?

I think I'd rather have the RB26DETT still in a GT-R.
Or VG35DE in the 350Z.

Nissan just plain builds great engines. If only their styling was up to snuff.

The reason you guys think the fun "stops short" is because you're use to the high winding of the variable lift motors. The Spec-V makes it's power from 4000-5800rpms vs the GT-S' 6200-8000 powerband. The Spec-V has a super flat and fat torque curve (compared to the GT-S) therefore the car won't "feel" as quick because the motor isn't peaky. The acceleration is linear. A bonestock Spec-V is good for low 15s possibly a high 14 when broken in. The real kick wil be when the headers, valve springs, cams, and such become available for these cars. They will be little monsters.

Nissan must have been influenced by Americans because Nissan seems to care more about torque than shear HP, which is fine by me. The 02 AUTOMATIC Altima SE ran a 14.9@94mph in the latest MT. Not bad. There are also a handful of 2k2 automatic Maxima owners running 14.3-14.4 with little or no mods. Gotta love torque.

With that said, I still can't get over the styling of the Spec-V/SE-R. It looks too tall, has jelly bean shape, and the interior clearly shows that this is a entry level car. I don't know why Nissan has neglected their interiors on most of their models. The Altima's interior looks good, but is woefully cheap in execution and the Sentra's look way too plastic. The Maxima's interior is very nice, but I still don't think it executed as well as the 95-99 Maxima which had a Benz-like style dashboard.

Why you using my word "Ninja hoez". You like that static huh?:chuckles:

My friend owns 02 Spec V and I took that biatch for a ride. Just like what Static said, just when you are ready to have fun, you have to shift. It does have a pull though. Strong feel of torque from 1st to 3rd. Redline isn't as high as Celica, but somewhat satisfied. It handles pretty good as well. I didn't like how the clutch was too long. Interior is fairly better than the Celica. I love them seats and stock stereo system. Overall, I would still take the Celica over it anyday.
