w00t, w00t. Finally, a reason to get excited!

They overpaid for both Pedro, and 'Los, but they needed a shot in the arm badly. I'm glad they did it, and I hope they still have money leftover to thro at Delgado. :faint:

Beltran aquisition is not confirmed yet. But I sure hope it goes through. But you know...no matter who the Mets get, they all suck when they put on the Mets uniform. It's like a curse or something. I've been a Mets fan since 86 and there are only a handful of players that got traded to the Mets and performed consistently. I just hope this year will be good.

Fcuk the cheaters, fcuk the Yankees...

2003 was lost because they left Pedro in for too long. I was rooting for the Sox that esntire ALCS. But that decision to leave Pedro in tied the game, and was lost when no name ass crack hit a solo shot. :gap:

You are 100% right. I've been folowing them since I can remember, and ever since 86 we've been cursed with bad moves and players who wear the Mets uniform and then play like ass. 2000 was a nice turnaround though.

He's an asshole. He should give the "ball" back to the Sox is what he should do. I liked him up until I heard he wouldn't give the curse-ending-ball back to the Sox. As if the Sox don't deserve that piece of history/memorabilia in their collection more than he does. How long was he with the Sox for? 6 months tops?

Yea, but last year they didn't have great pitching, now they have amazing pitching and hitting, so I think they did buy a title.

Doug is a @sshole, i agree with you on that. I don't even feel like he's part of that team. He didn't contribute all that much, and he wasn't on the team for more than a few months. He doesn't deserve the ball for a "retirement fund" or a "way to pay for his kids college". He's a moron if he can't pay for either of those with the ridiclous salaries players get nowadays. He's being selfish and a moron.

Yea, but the mets picked up pedro, and he's also burnt out. Comon now, help a brother out, please take sosa so we can possibly get ordonez. We'll even take burnt out Cliff Floyd off your hands!

With the yankees, it remains to be seen. I was sure that last year, before the start of the season, that they were going to win it.

Yea seriously, I read the same thing on ESPN.com. How can he not pay for his kids college by now? Or be set to retire? I mean he's a professional athlete for God's sake. What is he wasting all his cash on?

Touche on Pedro. :) Hopefully he still has 4 years left in him. Did I hear Cliff Floyd? Yes please, take him!

i bet pedro has a mediocre 1 yr left in him. It all is determinate on whether he becomes a "smarter" pitcher, using his mind more than his power. He's not gonna be whizzing his fastball by anyone anymore at the same rate he's done in the past, but combine a mediocre fastball with a good off speed pitch and he'll do well. We'll see how he does...

I'm saying his 2 hr's off Pedro was the cause of them losing. He was juiced up on steroids. If he wasn't juiced up then that's -2 runs they would of scored and 2+ outs they would of had.

Garnishing interest in the Mets. Think about it, who the hell really wants to play on th mest based on previous seasons? I was reading on ESPN.com that as soon as Pedro was acquired, Beltran became interested in the Mets. Before that, he was not. And notice, that Beltran is motivating Delgado to play for the Mets.

They are not looking for a title, trust me. They just want to be able to compete. And like Todd said, build a winning record, and franchise too... hopefully. I mean for the past 10 years the Braves have been kicking our ass division wise.

I'll tell you what...I like this new management, and their thinking. :)

i def agree with what joe said...each year i see less and less mets fans and more and more yankees fans...hell when i walk into any champs sports, foot locker, or lids ill see 50 different yankees hats in different colors, and mabye 1 mets hat if even...hell, ive even bought a yankees hat to match my timbs even though i hate the yankees...its not about buying a title, its a business they run, and the more big name players, the more fans, which in return is more money....

Oh, and the last Mets game I went to was near the end of this season vs the Cubbies. There were more Cubs fans in the stands/parking lot than Mets fans. It was a sad, sad day for me... Even though the Mets beat the Cubs. I'm sick of this shit already.

Worst idea ever, unless they can get rid of Floyd and have the Cubs take on a large chunk of Sosa's contract.

I've been a long time Mets fan, and I'm very impressed with their offseason moves. Most FA's that come to the Mets end up turning into crap. I've seen this for years. However, for some reason, I think this year is different. They didn't sign Sexon, which I was sure they would. He is bound to be the skinny white version of Mo Vaughn. He freakin' hurt himself twice last year on a check swing.

BTW, I just started reading "The Year the Bad Guys Won" about none other than the '86 Mets. Good stuff so far. I'm sure it'll rehash some of that huge article that was in FHM last year, but eh.....

it doesn't look bad either. I think we still have the best rotation and one of the more powerful lineups top to bottom. Our only hole last year in the lineup was stupid alex gonzalez, but we got nomar to replace him now. I just hope we can pick up maggs and get a productive year out of him. That and a solid closer...

You lost Alou (arguably your best hitter last year) and Clement. Prior can be great, when completely healthy. Wood can be great, when completely healthy.

I'm not saying it looks bad, but there are a lot of questions that need to be answered. We shall see.

zambrano is our best pitcher, and aramis ramirez was our best overall hitter last year. His numbers would have eclipsed alou's but he got injured and was out for almost a month. I know we lost alou, and he was great, that's why I want to get Maggs. Maggs is younger and I think better than Alou is now.

The division the mets are in doesn't look too too strong. I mean, the Braves only have one outfielder ( Jones ) at the moment......I hope they pick sosa up also!

Maggs > Sosa. Agreed.

Although I hate the Braves, I have learned never to count them out. They've won the NL East for how many years in a row? Last year, when I thought they were most vulnerable, they go ahead and do it again. Somehow Smoltz and Hudson will win 20 each. Stupid Braves! :furious:

I think the braves don't have what it takes to contend next yr. They have pitching that is based on hopes that people can be as good as when they were younger, and they have awful hitting.

The only reason I think they have a chance is because I'm sure Bobby Cox will pull some kind of miracle like he always seems to do. Even if they do make the playoffs they will prob blow it like they always do. They've made the playoffs like what? 12 times in a row? and have only won 1 or 2 WS

1 World Series.

Somehow they got Jarod Wright to pitch well last year. That's a miracle on it's own. Even the idiot catcher they got for Milwood was good. But yes, they will magically win the Division and they will lose in the playoffs. I'm just hoping the Mets can be the Wildcard team.

I hear they are still talking about that trade. I think sosa is like nomar to the red sox. He keeps our team from actually being a team. It's like a king and his minions. All the talk about him sucking brought the whole team down in my eyes. it was obvious what he was doing to. He couldn't reach the outside of the plate with his stance even with a hockey stick.....I probably could have stuck sosa out this yr even with me only throwing a 75 mph fastball and a mediocre curve and sinker.
