I don't even consider the elise a car

it's more a gocart with a strong engine LOL

And the mustang is a bigger go-kart with a stronger engine.

I really want an Elise with the B18C5 engine...

I didn't really get what was supposed to be so surprising about that article. Plenty of motorcycles out there will house both those cars for a less money. Welcome to the world of weight. :)

Should have been one more category: SUV front/rear/side impact tests. See how the featherweight roadster does then.

Other than that, Elises rock. I'd def. buy one if I could.

I've been wanting an Elise for years, but it was not legal in the US. I thought of putting a B18C5 in there and licensing it as a kit car. Good to see someone had the same idea as me and actually pulled it off.

Emissions I would guess. I don't think their engine could even have a chance in the US.

I'm pretty sure it's emissions as well. Part of the work around is to change the engine when bringing them over. Ironically, the Type R engine can be viewed as an upgrade in some ways. It's much more reliable and more powerful than the stock Lotus engine.

The "Lotus engine" isn't even a Lotus engine. It is made by Rover. It is a wimpy 140hp 4 banger. The elise's that are imported to the states are done so by the owners, and they don't all have the R engine. It is just something that some of the owner's have done to them.

The have a 190hp version too I think. Still with only 140hp they are v quick because of their light weight. But they are too cut-down a car for me to want to own. I like more stuff in a car. They are ace for race/track days though.

i was going to say....the lotuses motor is made by rover

so its just as much a lotus powered by honda as it is by rover.
hondas engine is just as good...but ab it less torquey

we drive celicas....we dont like torque anyway...lol
