Top Speed

I have a 2002 Celica GTS and am wondering what the top speed is, since its winter and snowy I cannot test it myself

umm i got my 6spd up to 127 in 4th at about 5700 rpm then traffic i was just testing my speed too but there is all always that damn traffic i want to go to a track but i dont know where any are in my area.... well i did it on I5 going to LA to visit my sister

127 in 4th!??? I think you must mean 5th. My Gt-s goes only about 104 in 4th..give or take a few....I have hit 130 in 5th..and got too paranoid about dieing that i gave up and said to myself " the top speed is faster than i need to go and need to know"


I think top speed is around 149 stock?...I think I read that somewhere...i could be wrong.....ask Larry he will know.

GTS 6 spd.
4th gear will top out around 105 mph.
5th gear will top out around 135 mph.
6th gear will top out around 170 mph.

This is if you have 205/50-16 tires

Does that mean your car will do 170mph in 6th gear? Nope. Think gearing, aerodynamics and drag. You dont have enough power in 6th to overcome drag to reach that speed.
I'm not sure how to answer your question. Your car is gear for 170mph, but you'll never reach that speed in 6th w/o any serious mods. So the fastest you'll go is about 135mph in 5th gear.

I wouldnt recommend going that fast to anyone though. I was on a Huge straight-a-way in a town where there is like no traffic. Celica's are not the fastest cars out there, but they can and will go if you push them. Just don't anyone go trying to prove all of us wrong and get hurt or killed. Fact is, I was pissed off beyond belief and it took a long time to slow down. I will probably never do it again. I just don't want to see any posts that someone got killed goin a buck thirty. 147 in 6th and RPM's started dropping. I can hit about 138 in 5th. I have Injen CAI wrapped with insulating header wrap, TRD exhaust, and TRD springs. Before exhaust and springs I could only top out 5th, I would shift to 6th and the car would immediately start slowing down.

I actually have the tag that comes with the car showing the gear and max allowance....

1st is 37 mpg
2nd is 58 mpg
3rd is 80 mpg
4th is 101 mph
5th is 129 mph

I know we've had our celica GT-s up to 137+ before we let off. It all really depends on what size tires/rims and also a mojor factor is your wing. Our APR wing lowered our top speed to 124 mph's:AF: Sold that quick!! :D

mine is redline in 5th...so about 135-140. how do you people get gains in 6th? when i switch i actually lose speed.. is that CAI really that helpful? if so, i really need one fast

Hay guys sorry you guys are right but i was 100 in 3rd going down hill in about 30 degree decline hill... so yes i was doing 100 in third only going down hill and yes my 3rd only lets me go up to 80 or so on the flat lands sorry about that i didnt remember that i was going down hill at the time MY BAD! laterz

i've hit 140 in 5th at about 8100 rpms with a little bit of rpm's left in 5th gear.

I don't think you should lose speed... but you should lose acceleration... correct me if I'm wrong...

How do you "lose" acceleration? Both of you are not technically correct, but I think "losing" speed makes more sense than "losing" acceleration.

Also, those who claim to go faster than your gearing allows in 5th gear... how accurate are your speedometer?

you should lose acceleration because on the higher gear, your the change of speed from your initial speed to the final speed is less...
Try this, when you're on second gear and third gear... let's say, 40mph... On which gear would you go faster to 60? if you say that at 6th gear you don't lose accel, but lose speed, then that's impossible, because to lose speed, then you have negative accelaration... but the decrease in acceleration, doesn't mean the lost of speed since the speed still increase, but at slower rate... (if usually you can go up 2mph per second, now you go up at 1mph per second... for example..)

Did you really expect our celica's to go 170 mph? Its mostly for gas saving purposes on the highway b/c the other gears are so closely set.
Like I said earlier, with enough power to overcome drag at high speeds, you can actually accelerate in 6th gear past 140. However, I think it'll take more than an intake.

I did 139 mph on I 15 just two days ago going into LA.. RPM riding at 6500 or so in my GT. I think it should reach up to 143 before limiter hits.

You have a GT. You should be going around 140mph @6800 in 5th gear with 195/60-15's

so does that intake and exhaust really help you get up to 145. My stock GT-S only hit 125 in 3rd, then on the shift to 4th, i ran out of room and power.

I've gotten up to 141(needle was a little past 140) on 5th and went to 6th to see if I could get anymore but couldnt get any more out of that gear. this was at I 15 south between the I 10 and I 60 interchanges (goin' about 135 when I past the I 10). For anyone that knows the Inland Empire area. I don't have any mods either except for the removed butterfly. I wanna see what I can max out...but that's like a death wish or something.
