View Full Version : Longevity of clutch with turbos

Here's the setup on a GTS:

MWR Stage IV short block (8.8:1 pistons, rings, Darton sleeves, Crower rods, ARP Main Stud Kit)

ARP Cylinder Head Stud Kit

C2 Power Stage II turbo kit

Random other things (Power FC, high flow fuel pump/injectors/fuel rail)

Depending on future power requirements, I'm trying to decide between the RPS Max Street or RPS Max 6 puck. The turbo will max out at roughly 400 whp, which will put me at roughly 300 ft-lbs. of torque.

That is the max for the Max Street....I know it could handle it, but running it at max capacity I'm worried that longevity will be compromised.

So I would think that the Max 6 puck is better (I've driven a friend's car with it in L.A. traffic and I thought it was fine for driveability). But RPS told me that the 6 puck will probably only last about 15,000 miles. I know that will come and go quite quickly, and I really am not wanting to replace it that fast. But RPS also told me if I went with a lightweight flywheel, it would extend the clutch life (less stress on overall drivetrain). Originally, I was just going to go with the stock flywheel. Now, I don't know.

Any of you who have a boosted vehicle with a puck clutch.....how is yours holding up? Opinions on any other topics here?

Thanks,
aerospike

MWR uses the RPS max street clutch on their 385whp spyder so.... I really doubt that you will drive daily with 400whp so I would think that the Max street would be just fine and last alot longer than the 6puck...

My theory is... When in doubt go with stronger ones.

are you using the stock tranny?

For now...but will upgrade to the C2 tranny. I don't understand what difference that makes....except for the amount of torque that can handle...

Yeah, but I don't want to pull my clutch out for a rebuild every 15k.
