I use a 1987 celica as my daily beater, and i'm at a point where i either need to ditch it and get something else, or make this run more reliably.

I was wondering what other toyota drivetrains will fit into my celica....can i covert to rwd??

My motor seems to be running OK, but the car has 150K on it, and i commute 50 miles a day for work....my suspension is so shot that the car bottoms out CONSTANTLY, and due to this i've developed many oil leaks :)

So what make/model/year toyota drivetrains will fit into my celica?? I'd prefer something that can drop right in, with an auto trans.

Ideally i would like something with some more power too....a 6cyl camry engine would be fun :)

thanks in advance!

A 3S-GTE will provide you with all the power you'll need when modded, and shouldn't be hard to install, since the 4th gen Celica (86-89) came with them from the factory as an option (AllTrac/GT4) including a manual AWD tranny. Not sure where you'd get an auto tranny, though. I don't think any US Toyotas with that engine came with an auto, but some JDM Toyota has that setup (Caldina, maybe). Not sure if any other trannies will bolt up properly to that engine. A V6 would be a lot of work to install, and would most likely throw off the weight balance of the car, hurting its handling ability.

hmph...modding a turbo motor is out of the question...my baby is a 2003 WRX, and that's the mod toy.

What sort of fuel economy can I expect from a 3S-GTE?? And does that need to run 91 octane??

Any good toyota engine swap sites or businesses in the Los Angeles area that could help me out??

thanks.

then get another 3SFE, it will be more economical than the 3SGTE
