I have 215/40/17 on the same set up. Its a little more than the 205's. 215's are a little wider or thicker if you want to put it that way.

The 215/40-15 will be a little wider and a little taller than a 205/40.

In all honestly, a 205/40 will look kind of goofy, it is just too short, it will make the fender gap look bigger - giving the 4x4 appearance.

10 is the diff between 205 and 215. :chuckles:

go with 215/40...closer to stock rolling circumference.

Actually the 205-40-17 is closer to the stock size, but the 215-40-17 looks better and is smaller then the stock and the 205-40-17. The 215-40-17 has better acceleration and braking then the 205-40-17.

Huh?

the only way 205/40 is closer is in width.

215/40 is bigger than 205/40.

4PASNU you don't know what you are talking about. The closest size to stock is 215/40/17/, 225/40/17 and 215/45/17

I'm using 225/45/17, gives me a better ride, protects my rim alot better and gives me better clearance on a lowered/bodykit car.

or another way to look at it is go with a slightly bigger size than wheel width.
for example, stock 16' is a 205 tire wheel is 6.5 inches wide
most tire sellers want to give you a 205 series tire with a 17x7 wheel.
If I were to get 17x7 , I would go with the 215
as for a 17x7.5 then prob a 225 would be good for that.
the reason I do that is because it offers a lil more wheel protection, and just plain looks meaner :D

the 205 or 215 has nothig to do with roling circumfirance of the tire..all it is is the width of the tire in millimeters...
one Q..i bought 205/40/17 for my car and was wodnerign if this will fill the whel well good or look goofy with a 1.4 inch drop front and rear or will it look just like the stock 15's look now????

I'm using 205/40s and they're perfectly fine. They are a LITTLE smaller in diameter than the stock 16's w/tires, but that's actually what I wanted. Use the 215/40s to stay as close as possible to stock. The 205's do look pretty good, but hey I was used to 35 series tires with my 18's... to me these look much better. I also have coilovers, so the drop isn't an issue to me. To someone else it might be.

But really, if you're gonna run an upgraded width rim, you actually should take advantage of it and run a wider than stock tire. I had my own reasons for running 205's.

Well, actually it does. You're right, it is the width in mm. And, when coupled with the aspect ratio (the 2nd number), it will tell you sidewall height. The aspect ratio is sidewall height as a percentage of width. So in order to know rolling circumference, you better know width.

Calm down big boy. My bad I looked at the tire calc. and saw that I was off. Last month I used the calc. to decide what tire to choose with my new rims. I must have looked at least a billion combos. If you have a 7.5 wide rim you will want a 215 40. A 205 40 will look like complete A$$. You want a nice flat sidewall. Anyways.
