So my timing chain broke and my engine wont start.

Do you think something got majorly messed up because the chain broke or do you think the chain breaking might have saved my a$$ ?

This was a miss-shift, I think, the RPMS went pass 11K on my tach.

You never know until you open them up but I'm guessing that broken timing chain + 11K RPM = a real mess. :(

Yeah, a misshift is enough to ruin an engine, if you did it bad enough to break the timing chain (not considered a wear item) then I would say it's time for a new engine.

Have you actually confirmed the chain broke, or is that speculation?

Chain is broke for sure. They are taking the valve cover off and getting a little stethiscope or some do-hikey thing to look down in the engine to see what kind of damage has been done.

The oil was clean when I checked it, but that doesnt mean much I guess.

it would be safe to say that the valves are bent to all hell at the minimum.

if your timing chain brakes that means it prolly left your valves open in the head when the piston came up and it most likely smacked em.. sorry to hear about the misfortune..

what type of misshift was it? 3-2 or 6-2?

bet you it was 3-2 instead of 3-4

I was doing 70-80 MPH going to work, not racing. My RPMS were around 2500-3000 when I went to shift. Then they went past 11,000 and I heard something snap and crunch.

Now that I think about it, it could have been a 6-2. But I also remember trying to shift into 5th. I thought it was a 6-1.

If you misshift, Tranny is broken for sure. Timing chain borke, the whole head must be replaced. Overrev, the crankcase and rods could be damaged.

What to do? Might as well submerge the car into water and declare it totalled.

Well, if he were to dish out the money to repair the car himself, IMO I think it's not worth it. The wording was bad but there was no disrespect. My apology.
