Smoke: Black/Grey
Diagnosis: Incomplete fuel combustion
Possible Causes: Clogged air filter
Carburator, choke, fuel injection, or
emission system malfunction
Ignition timing off
Low compression due to engine wear

How cold are these mornings?
Black smoke is indicative of your car burning smoke. If it only happens at cold morning startups if could just mean that your rings don't give a complete seal when the engine's cold. Once the engine warms up, they expand and seal the cylinder.
Do a compression check on all cylinders to confirm whether or not your rings are worn. After the "dry" compression test, squirt a little oil into the cylinder to see if it raises the numbers.

It only blows black smoke for a few seconds, the mornings are pretty cold here. Also I am not getting great gas mileage out of a full tank of gas. And it might be my imagination but it seems that there is a faint gas smell when i start it.

Aftermarket mods may explain why you are running rich, but not why you are burning oil (which it seems that you are).
If the car is still under warranty, then take it in and get it serviced.
Also, does your car burn a lot of oil, or any at all? If so, then your rings could be on their way out or you could have a busted seal somewhere.
But yeah, get a compression test done. You do regular maintenance on the car at all (air filters, plugs, throttle body cleaning, O2 sensors, etc.)?

The car always runs very rich on cold startup. Just in case, since you noted getting bad gas mileage, have a compression test done, as I told you earlier. If the numbers don't change when you drop oil in it, then do a leakdown test.
I will let you know how to do that after you get a compression test done.
