i'm planning on getting the panasonic CY-VMD9000U from ebay. i was wondering how much it would cost me to get it installed from a audio shop. Like the good guys or circuit city?

you should just get a wiring harness from radio shack or something for like at most $10...Its pretty common sense just...usually the wire colors are the same...just get yourself some electrical tape and you're set

Unless you are REALLY bad w/ your hands you should be able to handle it yourself. Get the metra kit, and the harness adapter and it is cake.

Probably it will cost $30 to install the kit, And $8 for the harness, $15 for the kit.
But the shop which i work, they only charge $25 to install and $20 for the harness and kit.

Um...since you have the GT-S, i believe you have the "premium" sound package. I dont know of any harnesses available. It'll be a bit tougher than installing a regular deck. You must bypass the stock amp. Otherwise you can blow out your speakers.. and even if you dont, it'll sound pretty horrible. I doubt the harness from the JVC will reach the amp.. so you're going to have to extend all the wires. Its not really a job for an amateur... i'm not saying its impossible... but its more difficult than most. So, if you're willing to experiment, then do it yourself... otherwise spend the 30-40 bucks to get it installed.... ohhhhhhhhhh wait, its a in-dash dvd player... now thats gonna be pretty hard for the amateur. But it'll cost you around 120 or so for installation alone. You have to run wires from the headunit to the hideaway unit.. then back to the amp. But... it is alot of work... so i dunno ... its up 2 you.. its not impossible, but it is difficult. .... As for the theft prevention... i dont think there is any. Just get a much better alarm i guess.

you would figure that by now someone would've made a harness for the GTS's "premium" system...you know? The way I'm doing mine, is I'm just rewiring everything, got a new amp, HU, speakers......so I dont have to deal with most of the factory wiring, except power, ground...etc..

most of the celicas......GT or GTS have the premium system..meaning there is a factory amp located behind the passenger airbag if im correct. cant remember. anyway, that just has to be found and bypassed in some cases to add the new aftermarket head unit. i.e. best buy charges 50 bucks in basic labor.....plus 16 harness/16 kit/ plus any extra custom labor needed.
