Im driving a 2003 RAV4 right now, its a great car, very reliable but its not the car that i wana drive everyday. Im wana drive a celica or eclipse or civic coupe. So i went to my dealer yesterday and i saw a 2000 Celica GT-S with 45K miles on it for $14995. My dealer agreed that i can trade my RAV4 but since i cant decide yesterday, they allowed me to test the celica and bring it home for 1 day and see if im satisfied with the car. Today im going back to my dealer and tell them my decision. Well i like the car, its fast and very stylish, but there are some things that holding me back from getting the car, im concern that its already 5yrs old and i was told that they didnt replace anything like timing chain, belts etc... , i hear some clicking noise(not noticeable but i can hear it) coming from the under the hood when its on neutral and slightly stepping the gas, theres a rattle inside the car probably from the back or passenger side (i cant tell coz i dont know exactly where its coming from), road and wind noise (very bumpy), and the last is NO warranty! So guys what do you think? should i get it? is the celica a realible car? how much will it cost me if im gona change the timing chain? any other parts to check before i get the car? Im returning this car today so please help me guys! Thanx...

Here's the spec of the car:

Sunroof, leather seat, alloy rims, E-Shift, spoiler, fog lights, keyless entry, others are standard.

BTW, i drive 80miles, 6days a week.. average speed, 70-80mph on expressway.

I wouldn't....too expensive

Also if you are just needing this as a daily driver (no plans to modify) you should get a gt because I believe they average 10 mpg better, in addition to using regular gas.

you can find a 2000 gt-s for a few grand less than that.

10 mpg better? maybe because your driving the gt-s harder, but the gt only gets about 4 or 5 more miles per gallon (less if it's manual trans).

In general, Celicas are highly reliable cars. Having said that, new models are usually the most problematic. There are a few issues with the 7th generation GT-S (e.g., belt tensioner squeal), but overall it's a great car! However, you shouldn't buy ANY car unless you have a competent and trustworthy mechanic check it out for you (unless of course you happen to be one yourself or have enough knowledge to be one).

The price sounds a little high, but it depends a lot on your area -- have it checked out, compare the price of that one to other GT-S's with similar options and mileage for sale in your area. If the car turns out to be mechanically sound and the dealer will come down on the price, go for it. Good luck!

P.S.
I'd strongly suggest that you sell your RAV-4 privately if you can -- you'll get brutally RAPED if you trade it in. When I bought my 2000 GT-S the dealer offered me less than $1500 for my 93 Celica GT. I sold it privately for more than double that.

i just got a 2000 gt-s with 57k on it, but i paid extra for a warranty, and it was worth it cuz there were lots of little things wrong and even still i had to fix the belt out of my pocket.

but there is no point to an automatic GT-S, it just has a worse powerband and gets worse mileage, if u want auto get a GT like they said, ull get better , mileage and u wont have so many little squeaks and rattles

My 6-spd gets about 30mpg, my roomate's auto GT gets about 40mpg driving the same roads.

ok i have had my celica GT but its a 5 speed( i auto cross it and win, also i do scca rally also but just for fun..too scared and dont ahve a rollcage yet.) anyways. i have 147,438 miles on my car, yeah i just looked at it .if you want a reliable car that wont die on you then get a celica gts or gt whatever, just remember to change the oil. By the way i blew my engine at milage 70k so i guess my 2nd engine has only around 77k miles....but im tellin you it purrs like my girlfriends' friends. But if you want speed and all that get something else...like a 14b with JDM turbo in it for that price. 14k for a used car that just BS at least go on auto trader.
