I think the article says it all. http://www.msnbc.com/news/734035.asp?0dm=C11HT

Not only the people who said they had a bad experience with the store but the list master, the ISP, and anyone else who might have had a buck got sued.

Man, that's really weak on the store owners part, I don't see how that can be libelous unless it was all made up, but if it was the truth and a strong emphasis on the truth, it will hold up in court.

what kind of a ******* would sue someone because someone else was apparently right about the fact that they maintain a ****ty business with poor client relations. i guess he pressed hard for it like the sob he is cause no one in the right mind is gonna ever buy from that **** again.

Libel is only libel if it is untrue, tell the truth and you should have no problems,

and yes, that store is lame for doing that sh1t, sure he got alot more business from that....

When ordering on the net you should print out all the receipts and save all the emails at time of order... if that guy did that I don't see how he'd could have lost the suit...

at any rate what a ****ty store...

Larry, I think that's an excellent idea, with the state of our legal system today in the US I don't think you can be too careful about being sued. Unfortunately running a popular web site like this does open you up to litigation unless you are careful to minimize the risk.

All, it really doesn't matter if you're innocent or not, if you don't have the $1000s to pay a lawyer to go to court it's probably better to just settle out of court, especially if you can get away with just putting up a banner on your web site like many of the defendants in the news story above. Even if you win, in many states the filer of the frivilous lawsuit like these sound to be, is not required to cover the defendants legal bills and you can get nailed with holding an innocent verdict that cost you $10,000 or more out of your pocket.

Larry, just stating you are not responible doesn't make you not responsible.

You should get legal insurance if your worried about it.

im not worried about it, but stating you arent responsible should hold up in court if something ever does happen.. Only because atleast I can state that its printed on the webpage that I have nothing to do with their actions..

But if it is CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK, (like E-bay, and Consumers Union) then you should be fine.
