Made some serious progress on the install. This shot shows you the end of play today, all that remains to do is a bit of tidying up here an there and wiring up, all the cabling is in place it just needs connecting up. Oh Yeah and the Neons need fitting too.

Sorry you lost me there, got to admit I don't know that much, kind of learning as I go, can you explain that comment.

Thanks

I think he means that a 15 doesn't have as much sound quality compared to smaller subs.

hey can you give a quick description of how that was done.

is it all wood? did you build the box first then just build the amp racks and stuff after? is it vinyled? its hard to tell from the pic whats up. looks pretty good though.

I am currently creating the pages to show the construction of the install, this will become part of the modifications section of the main club site.

In short:

Amp rack is an 18mm MDF cradle. The sides and covers are 6mm MDF with windows in 2mm clear polyurethane. The sub box is 12mm base with 18mm MDF supports, back and sides are 18mm MDF and the front is 20mm clear polyurethane, this was custom laser cut, no way was that being done with a jigsaw.

The base, back and interior of sub enclosure are carpeted in standard black car carpet, the covers are layed up in a brushed nylon with foam backing, the back plate where the door catch is, has a covering of carpet under the brushed nylon, this is to give extra support.

In addition the whole boot was dynomatted and then laid up in standard carpet. All woodwork has been sprayed in matt black paint.

Think that just about covers it :D

How much did the weight of the vehicle increase? Is the acceleration and stopping performance decrease, from the extra weight, painfully obvious?

To be honest I have no idea how much all the extra stuff weighs. I can tell you that the all the structural parts of the system, bar the plexiglass can be carried easily by one person, so its not too heavy.

The biggest weight increase will come from the audio equipment itself, that SUB i damned heavy and the big 1507 amp is no lightweight, I think the PG powercore comes in at about the same weight as the big amp too.

I knew this when building the system so the amp rack was made as light as possible, it is basically a lightweight MDF frame formed from four main panels with cross brace struts. Its not the strongest thing in the world but it is designed to be structurally rigid with the amplifiers attached, basically no amps and its weak, with the amps it is very strong.

As for the performance, well I don't know yet as the car isn't running at the moment. I do expect a slight decrease in performance but then I have a supercharger to take care of that :D
