that thing is more like 320, it just says 276 to keep it under 280...so if it says 250 is it really 280-300?

god.. that car is gonna be so sweet.. and i really think its gonna be higher than 276.. i went to some EVO message board once and they dynoed a U.S. Evo and it had some nice numbers.. around 300 from what i remember.. there was no REAL proof other than the guys word.. some beleived him some didnt... just thought id share..

Hey jotan82,

It seems you are just as excited as I am that the EVO is coming to the US.

You should check out the May '02 issue of Automobile. They have a nice peice on the Euro Spec. EVO VII vs. WRX Sti. They favored the EVO VII on straight line performance and Handleing.

There is also an article stating that the EVO VII will be called the EVO VIII when it hits the shores.

I'll scan the articles when I get back from work.

I'll be a toss up. I've already begun the search for my next ride which will probably happen about this time next year. The WRX is firmly in that position now, but the EVO will pose a risk.

The question.....does it have enough extra everything to warrant the extra $5k over the WRX? $5K in mods or the EVO? The EVO has better be one hell of a car to beat that challenge.

i like the wedgy shape of the evo better.... no girl i kno likes the way the WRX looks, they prefer the normal lancer sedan..... but didnt see the evo..... still i think lancer looks better....... i'd wait the extra 5k for it for sure....... just my opinion

I don't like the stock WRX look either, but those kits that are out there are mean. With $5k, you could be sporting a full coilover suspension, mean body kit, all kinds of I/E/turbo/intercooler work.

But you are right....that EVO look......damn!

And I've heard people say that the HP will be very easy to get at. Some said something about a plastic 'throttle' piece in front of the turbo, others the intercooler. Either way, JDM parts will be available.

Retuning a detuned car should be easy HP.

Might just be me, but the evo and the wrx are fugly. Id rather have a celica of the same speed, or a 350z or just a z06.

With knowing now that the WRX STi and EVO VIII are finally making the trip here....either one of my cars' days are numbered.....either the celica or the avalon (trying to convince the wife to sell the avalon, keep the celi and get the WRX or EVO)....hehe

supposedly the WRX will have a new look in a year or so. Subaru contracted Prodrive (the company that makes the badass rally kit/headlights for the current WRX) to design a while new look for it. They know that must people think the car is fugly and that it's hurting sales. Also, the WRX STI should show up a little after the EVO comes to the US. another good option.

The Motor Trend artile is kinda blurry, but i'm pretty sure it said in it that the US car will be called the EVO8. I wonder if that means it will include some of the improvements planned for the real JDM EVO8, such as the 6spd trans. Hopefully they don't stick a crappy little ic in the US car, cuz that would limit the amount of boost u could run.

When i said celi of the same speed I meant id rather have a celi that could run with them, than have any of them cuz they lack terribly on the looks department. I threw the z06 in there interms of speed i think it can run with them. Not sure of the times..

No a ZO6 will stomp all of them in terms of speed stock, and im pretty sure it will in handling and braking as well, but then again it is a ~$50k car.

EDIT: Oh yea, and I'm with you on keeping the Celica over one of these, especially since I should have mine paid off in less than a year, no point in buying another new car for a little more speed while losing atleast $5k and then the extra cost of the new car. If I were any of you I'd just buy a project car, you can spend $5-10k for a much faster car, just takes some work though.

Yeah I'm with omni on that, let them all go out and buy those cars, they wont have the money to spend on mods, you could buy some project car and with way less you could be toasting them who knows maybe you could in the celi with some turbo and a few other tricks one day down the road.

and whats the z06 0-60 like 4.2 or somethinG?
thought the evo was 4.8 and wrx sti like 4.8. That would come down to driver I think.

I've seen pictures of the newer wrx look. It looks nice not so round and bugeyed. Its uhhh can't describe it but i saw it on another board. But i dont know if that was a finalized look of the car.

Just had to butt in cuz that comment irked me. You get all of the "go" in the $27k base 350Z. There's some nice stuff in the upper level models, like Ray's wheels, Brembos, and an LSD, but the base 350 is going to def. be a price/performance competitor w/ the coming super sedans.

Different kind of driving experience, though.

the reason why i'm gettin the evo is becuz i don't want a 50k celica!!!

i'd rather have an evo and drop 25k into that, rather then have a celica and put 30k in mods...

IMO a evo is more prestigous, and i can use it for a long time... and i hate the fact that i have to get up to let someone in the back :angry:

It may be more prestigous but the celica "looks fast." hehehe really though the celica is much better looking.

The EVO is definately one of my choices for next car. It's between this the rx-8 and the 350z. I was including a supra but i think its gonna be too old and too much work to get to my level by then. Whatever i get will have to be a turbo so if i dont see any kits soon for the mazda or nissan im goin all EVO. By the way to the kid who was talking abou the zo6. Your comparing two cars that are more than 20k apart, and still the zo6 is BARELY faster. With some work the EVO will be right there with that vette. I cant wait to eat my first M3! ***TURBO HERE I COME!***

i thnik the EVO looks good from the angle most of the cars on the road would see it from.. the back :) Im not a fan of the front but AWD turbo and lots of power..hmmm :)
