I also don't have any whine. I also am not using the stock speakers, I'm not using the stock speaker wiring, and I'm not using the stock harness wires except for the ignition and light trigger.

I only have an aftermarket HU, the speakers are all factory. I had my HU installed professionally, and they used an aftermarket wiring harness, that could be your problem.
I used to have a lot of whine with my Eclipse 8454 (in my 2000GTS), don't right now since the HU was stolen and haven't reinstalled the new one. From what I understand it depends on your HU's output to the stock amp. The mod corrects for this problem but a regular harness alone will not. My solution will be to redue the system, which I was planning on doing anyhow. That said, from the searches I ran when I first installed the unit, the mod seems to work well if you have whine and want to stick with the factory amp/setup. Though I am sure there are folks around here who know more about this than I do.

i have a gt so the amp was with the old stock headunit right? all i did was replace the HU with a alpine 9815 it put out 60x4 and i used the scosche harness for our car to connect it but i get the whine, stock speakers everything
right now im looking to buy another deck and was wonderin if i should do the mod to fix teh whine before puttin the new deck in
any comments?
n btw thanks for all teh replys so far=) jus tryin to figure this all out
If I remember correctly if you have a Premium system, the amp should be located under the paneling to the right of the glove box (at least that's where it is on the GTS). You should be able to look up and see it. Since the Scosche harness connects to the wires that run to the amp if you get another aftermarket HU it is possible that you will continue to run into the same problems with the whine. Aside from the mod or buying a new amp (etc.), I

the GT does NOT have the stock amp seperate from the deck correct?
It depends. I know that the early GTS came with the premium system as an option but not really and option. Basically every GTS on the dealer lots had them. As I understand it, unlike the GTS, the premium system really was an option on the GTs. So if your car had the premium system then you should have the separate amp. Someone once posted that an easy way to know if you have a premium system is to see if the stock HU has the option to adjusts the Mid range. If you required the special Scosche harness though (the one with the RCA jacks) you probably have the amp.

My 2001 GTS's OEM HU had midrange tuning. I heard that 2000 HU's could access it too but you had to type in a code of some sort. I read this a while back on my days at celica.net.

ive been usin the ta-02 harness so im pretty sure i dotn got the amp but y do i still have whining?
Yeah it sounds like you do not have a seperate amp. As for the whine, I'm not so sure now since I have mostly looked into whine as a result of the amp. I suppose you could check and see if the unit is properly grounded, that can sometime be the problem. Otherwise I would run some searches here to see what else might be causing it. If you don't find anything here you might want to try the audio forum at http://www.celicatech.com/ It seems to be the reincarnation of celica.net
(hey Evil Eye do you know what happened over there?)
As for the Mod., it might not correct the problem since I think it was designed to correct for the stock amp, which it would appear you don't have.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
