You can go here http://www.dmv.org/vehicle-history.php to check but I believe a vin number contains at least 17 characters, hope this helps you out.

yes...VINs are 17 characters. however, the last 6 or so are basically just production run numbers if i remember correctly. BUt you will still need all 17 to run a check.

If you have the money to buy a car I'm sure you have the money to buy a carfax account.

Or call and ask them what type of transmission
