No, I don't fabricate CF. Yes, it is CF vinyl!

Many have posted that they would like to paint these vents and I can now tell you the slats are removable.

Placing the vinyl was a considerable amount of work since each piece MUST be trimmed to fit exactly after it is placed on the vent slat or else the vents don't close well. But I think the results are well worth it :)

If anyone is interested, let me know. If people are REALLY interested, I might get Bat involved to help me produce these things in ANY color vinyl.

To answer some question:

Vis-Celica/Xlr8_10:

The slats are held in by a ball-and-socket like arrangement, 4 molded plastic pins, two per slat, one a side.

http://www.marconimuseum.org/images/cfvent1027.jpg
The trick to taking out the vent slats is to wedge a thin knife blade between the slat and the small, non-tilting part of the vent.
http://www.marconimuseum.org/images/cfvent1030.jpg
Rotate the knife blade until the pin on the slat clears the hole and pull forward. In addition, take note of the plastic retainer piece on the left pin of the upper slat.

DON'T LET THIS FALL INTO THE VENT.

It usually comes off with the slats but don't drop it in there, I'm sure Toyota doesn't have these laying around and the vent will fit poorly without it.

Lastly, be careful. It is easy to mark up the inside part of the vent that doesn't come out when pulling out the slats.

Lord Banshee:

Think real hard! Who is the King of Vinyl here on NewCelica.org?
Why the one and only Blue Batmobile :)
Check with him for pricing.

MIcelica01'/Lord Banshee:

As you can see from the pics I took during the install, I might get with Bat and make a vinyl kit for ANY color if the interest is good :) The hardest part was originally sizing all the pieces of vinyl and trimming them to fit exactly after they are applied, otherwise the vents close poorly and it looks like ass :gap:. The great thing with the vinyl is that you can change colors at ANY time. Just remove the old, replace with the new. Or if you like the original, the vinyl peels off and leaves nothing behind.

Id be very interested in white ones. An other idea that Id be interesting in purchasing is an overly for the A/C control portion of the center dash if possible.
