Heres what I wanted to do, I bought a piece of highly polished stainless steel, and I wanted to cut out the gear shift pattern (the triple H since I have a GT), take off the shift boot, and just get a chrome shift ball, a retro type of styling, I think I could wing it aroudn the ends with a dremel but anyone have any suggestions for the straight parts?

tried it but think of the theory.....
the psition of the shifter in first is that close to the position of when its in third thus no room for any metal in between to form the "H" like ferrari's.

kareem....you'd have to make a custom "long shifter" (yeah not short shifter)
because with the TRD SS the shifts are so close that the grooves would be on top of each other.
but if you lengthened the throw a bit
you COULD make a ferrari style shifter.
basically....you know that thing thats on the bottom of shifter asembly....like hte bottom part of the long metal rod with aball in the middle.
youd have to move that UP....like make THAT part shorter.
then you could have a "short" shifter with long throws.
thats not all that would be involved...but thats a start for it
from there you can make a 6 speed shift pattern.
and boom. no more misshift.
hehe...boom...get it?
i know you get it kareem...i know you do....
like 2 times get it.......
hehehe.

The others are right. The gears are way too close. I tried making one over a year ago. What it ended up being is a square cut out in the center. I had the chrome ball and everything. It looked a little like the IS300. I kept it that way for a while but went back to the boot. I had cut the shaft down about 3/4" because if you don't it looks rediculously tall without a boot around it.

yep, me and the antirice wanted to do this, but to you'd have to have a machine shop do it in order to sell it, and you'd ahve to make a 3d scale of it that was perfect, measuring the movement of the shifter on the flat plane... then you have the problem of securing it to something... it's not as easy as you would think..
