That looks sweet! How long did it take the two of you to do the install?

Coolwheels00
04-07-2002, 08:08 PM
Thanks again Cody! I'm actually having second thoughts about the front lip. While it was in Blake's driveway, the front chin was only about 3 inches off the ground. His driveway has a little dip before you get into the garage and it was almost sitting on the ground at that dip. :) I'll still put it on of course. How long it stays on might be another story.
Duncan, we got started around noon. Had to make one trip to Sears to get a socket that we broke LOL. 45 min trip. And also had dinner, 30 minutes i guess. We got done a 6pm, so really about 4 1/2 hrs I guess.

Yeah we took our time =)

We should have gotten pics of our cars next to each other... looked like a perfect drop height to me.

If anybody's thinking about getting these springs... they felt real nice with the stock shocks and are super easy to install (Only have to compress the fronts and not much). We cut the front bump stops in half and left the rear alone. Front and rear sat on the spring perches and top hats perfectly, no slop. Camber looked good in the front (not adjustable), a little negative in the rear (adjustable).

It would be nice to know the spring rates... they didn't feel far off from stock, which will be great for the shocks. Only time will tell =)

Blake

ps. Jamie, You're helping me with my front mount... that'll take a little more time! =)

EDIT - re-post in mods as well...

Thanks man. This drop is definately noticeable. It's sitting just above the tires, about 1 finger space in back and 1 1/2 in front. It looks perfect IMO. :) Man, if I had the cash, I would already have a Kaminari kit and the Shoguns that I had picked out. But my other car is draining my wallet. :( Soon my friend, soon.

04-08-2002, 08:18 PM
Let's stop talking about the Kaminari kit, at least until I go back to work, I finally got my Dad to agree that a body kit would look good on my car which means that when I get the Kaminari kit this summer he won't give me the Your wasting your money speech. So I can't wait but I Won't have the funds till July.

Coolwheels00
04-08-2002, 08:31 PM
Hey Mark, don't make me whoop your a$$ and take your new kit this summer ;) BTW, will a kit cover up your GTX stripes on your sides? They're pretty low on the doors.

2kgtx
04-08-2002, 08:59 PM
No that's why I'm going with Kaminari because they won't cover up the stiripes, I like the TRD sides but don't wan't to lose the stirpes I kinda like them.

Bad News on the Kaminari Kits, I just looked in the Group Purchase forum and it turns out that Racerette is no longer going to be selling them :wtc: Something about they tried to get a GP going and someone said they could do it for a price higher then Racerette becuase they didn't know about her then someone said they got it from her for a lower price then she actually sold it them for, and then Kaminari got contacted and Dam this is too long to wright go check it out for your self I am pissed right now because I was planning on buying the kit from her because she had such a great price and now she isn't going to be selling it.

hey, speaking of buying stuff, you wanna take one more of my old parts jamie? it looks like my TRD short shifter wont fit the new transmission once it gets here so i'm gonna have to replace it with the TWM since they're the only ones making a 2002 one. if you're interested let me know.

Haha, yeah but that's only a good deal for one of us :)
And yes I would be interested in your SS. Any idea on what you want for it? It would be a couple of weeks though when I get my next H.D. check. BTW, got my alignment done today. Toyota wouldn't touch it and neither would Firestone. They recommended Butler Tire and they were more than happy to work on it. The have an alignment rack that you drive on (which i used) and one that is under ground for those slammed cars with kits. Cost me $74 though. Little expensive. The fronts were fine, no bad camber, just adjusted the toe. The rear had -2.4 camber on both sides. It adjusted out fine.

2kgtx
04-09-2002, 09:12 AM
Did you go to the Butler over off 41, I went their when I got my rim's their the only ones who will touch my car, Toyota and all the others said they would Scratch my rims. I paid 74 as well it's expensive but How often do you get an alignment anyway

Coolwheels00
04-09-2002, 09:18 AM
Yep, same place. They were real nice. The guy said my car was begging for some 19's on it. LOL. It's actually the first alignment that I've had on the car w/36k miles. I've never had any tire wear or pulling probs so I never got one. They recommended getting another one in six months because the springs will most likely drop a little by then.

2kgtx
04-09-2002, 09:46 AM
Yeah I need another one, I was stupid and got the alignment right after getting the rims not thinking I was going to get Springs so soon, I can tell the my rear camber is off a little so I think I know I need one I just have insufficent funds, HD isn't sounding so bad looking at how much I need to do to my car, Of course with the camber being off the way it is, it's good for autocross so I could just leave it and justify it that way.

Wrong! I don't know exactly what it takes for this to happen but one of my friends had her Insurance go up after she got a warning, but the warning was for something like 20 over, I know that the insurance doesn't do anything unless its 15 or more over, I got a ticket for 16 over last year and I got the judge to drop it to 14 over because as she said that doesn't ever touch my driving record. and she was right my insurance has no record of the ticket.

2kgtx
04-11-2002, 03:29 PM
It's sent into them so that they know you may be a risk, I don't think they will do anything for just 10 over though, I know they didn't do anything for an actual ticket of 14 over. but then of course I was 19 at the time, and had, had my license for almost 4 years. I really depends on who your insurance is, I wouldn't worry right now but if you get a ticket in the next 6 months to a year you are probably Screwed.

J5ISALIVE
04-11-2002, 03:31 PM
ok So...if my insurance does go up, somthing is sent hoem giving a reason why and what not? Or is it just go up if i do somthing in the next 6 months.??

2kgtx
04-11-2002, 03:35 PM
The insurance won't call home, but if I were you I would tell your parents but hey the choice is up to you, but I would rather go ahead and tell them rather then have them find out at court if you ever get a ticket, remember you are under 18 so any ticket you get you have to go to court for.

2kgtx
04-11-2002, 03:37 PM
It would probably just go up I don't think it would say why but your parents are probably smart and would realize that it wouldn't just go up, any way I would be more worried about my Insurance going up then having my parents find out. Do you pay for your insurance?

J5ISALIVE

2kgtx
04-11-2002, 03:46 PM
Ok a little help for you don't just throw it out there, at dinner she will probably be eating enjoing her dinner and then choke on something, make sure she is in a good mood then put it on her, and make sure she realizes that it's just a warning and that it was for only 10 over, any one who says they don't do 10 over is lying, so she should understand, probably won't be happy but she will get over it, My Mom flipped when I called to tell her I got a ticket I called her right after the cop let me go, then I told her that he got me going 51 in a 35 and explained where I was and she understood, in fact where I got pulled over my Sister got pulled over at the exact same place for 15 over, about 8 years ago, kinda Ironic

J5ISALIVE

Wow only 500 a year I have always paid most of my Insurance when I had my Volvo my parents paid a little I mean very little of it and I paid 1000 a year, when I bought this car they told me I have to pay the whole thing, when I first bought it I was paying 2140 a year, last year it went down to 2113 a year, and when I renew this year it will go down a lot because I will be over 21 :D I think it will be around 1500 after that

Well hopefully my Insurance won't go up and stuff.

Do cops still give "written warnings"? I was just told "happy birthday and slow down or next time there will be a ticket waiting. so mine was a verbal warning. My mom asked for the piece of paper, and i said "what piece of paper"? Are written warnings a thing of the past?

Well i will have my cruise control set all tomorrow LOL I wonder if that cop will be there tomorrow to see if i speed by again :)

So how do these Laser radar guns work? i bet they are really acurate cause when he said my speed he said he was using a laser gun. they work for a longer distance also? well no more speeding, i was stupid :(

John

skatamatic
04-11-2002, 04:51 PM
lasers are supposed to be more accurate and unfortunately for us harder to detect. radar can be detected from very long distances away but i've heard that the laser beam going out is only a few feet which means you have to be right on it for it to be detected. i've heard that certain things can mess it up but they're usually illegal and expensive. therefore, i just stick to the "i'm gonna try not to speed" method, and so far its worked well (knocking on wood....)

J5ISALIVE
04-11-2002, 05:03 PM
Yep. that method failed me today. Well i guess i didn't try to hard. But from now on NO SPEEDING! YAY. Well i'm working on a project for religion class. Sorry but that is the worste class of the day. Dude Don't worry about it I would hate to go to a religion class I remember when I had to go to CCD that sucked, Im only a Core member, not a youth Minister, I have a book that gives me an idea that says what i need to say and that's what I do, I am mainly their because I was in the group as a teen and I think it is a good experience for HS teens to go through, and I want to do what I can to help.

As for the Laser detectors, the radar works pretty good but when I got my ticket the cop didn't turn his radar on till he saw me so their was no radiation leaking out of the gun for my detector to detect until it was on me at full, The laser thing, when I got my radar detector someone said to me if it says laser just pull over, and you know what he was right, if it says laser it's too late to slow down.

Yeah, I've heard that a few times now too. I just tried to call him but he never answered so I'll try again later. If it is not here today I want a tracking number. I'll let you know what I find out. Can you pm me your cell number? I had it before but I can't find it.
