View Full Version : Injen CAI Problem, looking for Options

I've posted before about the problems I have with my 3rd gen Injen CAI on my 01 GT-S. I now have CEL on all the time, resetting ECU only makes it go away for a few days. The car bogs and almost stalls when the engine is cold and the car is put into gear and continues for several minutes of driving (this happens 3 times a day: morning before work, lunch break, and after work) Been going on for months now.

I'm at the point now where I either will go stock, or MUST get this fixed. I don't have a lot of time due to my work, so I can't monkey around with it. I need either an experienced shop, Injen themselves, or someone who can advise me of other options.

I live and work in Irvine, CA. I really don't want to dump more money into this CAI, cuz returning to stock will cost me a max of $50 and to me that's looking the best.

I emailed Injen so I'll see what they say too.

Thanks in advance for opinions,
-Dana

Did you install the intake yourself or have a shop do it? Sounds like something was missed in the install... did you try going over the instructions step-by-step to insure that all hoses are where they need to be and on tightly? Also, did you check the seal between the MAFS and the intake pipe? A leak there will trigger your CEL easily. There haven't been many complaints about the intake itself being the cause of a CEL, most have been due to something amiss in the installation.

There's also a little plug that goes onto that port below your throttle body where a vacuum hose was disconnected. Make sure that cap/plug is in place.

I installed the intake with the help of a friend. I've since taken it apart and re-installed it twice. All hoses are fine. MAF sensor is on tight, little tiny cap on the throttle body thing is there. ECU tube is connected well. I dunno man. I would take it to a shop and have them re-install it if I could GUARANTEE it would fix it.

Thanks for the constructive comments, hope more keep rolling in! http://www.newcelica.org/ubb/smile.gif

I get the same bogging problem as you, Dana, however it seems not as bad. Mine usually goes away after 30 seconds or so, and now that the air is chilly it actually seems better in the mornings than it used to. As for the CEL, I have heard people suggest that you not only make sure the MAF is tight, but clean as well. I cant remember how they said to clean it, I think it was with Vaseline or something. Anyway be careful because its very delicate / sensitive.

Interesting. I think I am going to clean my car tonight, and pull the CAI and re-install it again. Can anyone suggest how to clean the MAFS?

Also, any other pointers or possible problem sovlers would be appreciated.

mmm well I did have a slight bog every now and then right after driving the car away upon startup. It was like I would push the gas pedal and the car would not pick up any speed, then it would go away. Shortly thereafter I installed my S-AFC and took the car to get dyno-tuned. I found out the car was running REALLY lean in the first few k so we added more fuel on the low end. Not sure if this was really the solution, but I haven't had the problem since... I never did trip a CEL, altho I have heard that the CEL can be tripped if your car is leaning out too much.

Just another thing to think about...
