Thanks Dark Star. I just looked at the second picture of it and was about to say that I thought it was Jinsokubees. I guess he took the CF part off his front bumber.

What I can't figure out is....are my eyes playing tricks on me or is painted the same color Richard just painted his. Or is it still yellow and just sitting in some weird light that is making it look orange?

johnnys is still yellow, and he didnt exactly remove the cf from the bumper...if flew off on the freeway.

Dark Star,
Jinsokubees car looks orange in that picture, but if silv3rOne says it's still yellow, I must be seeing things. Maybe I'm color blind.

Thanks sheizen, I'll check that out.

Silv3rOne,
How did he have it attached? So I know never to attach anything like he did.
Kenny was talking about attaching the CF roofs he is planning on making with some kind of double stick tape. Just trying to figure out what is the best way to attach something to a car that you don't want to bolt on.

(It's a yellow APR widebody with a CF hood, roof, hatch, mirrors, dash, door panels, center colsole, subwoofer enclosure, and wing. Half of the front bumper is modified to be carbon rather than urethane as well. He's also got a pair of Recaro Tomcats )

Thanks for posting that shrumdude. I tried to find a way to delete this topic after my account on CarandModel.com got canceled because I let everybody use my password to view the picture.

I promise, the picture of his car on CarandModel looked orange. I'm not crazy, but it sure seems that way when you see that the car is obviously yellow in the picture you posted.

Did you look at the picture of it on CarandModel? It doesn't look just a little bit orange? I can't be that color blind.

The lighting in the show is playing tricks with your eyes. It's still yellow, but the lights overhead make it look different.

Maybe my color correction on my monitor is really good.

Thanks evil eye. I was hoping at least one person would agree that it looks orange (even though I know it's not now), but I'll take that.

yea, cftype did johnny's car..its amazing but he says his car is noticeably slower now with all the extra weight.

the car is pretty much wrapped in cf which is a hella lot cheaper than getting 100% cf parts while still retaining a great show car. peformance wise it's not worth it though.

Extra weight from carbon fiber? Why have something wrapped in CF if it's just going to add weight to your car?

I thought wrapping was more expensive than buying a part made of CF.

maybe fake cf ?

I didn't know there was fake CF.

His car bacame heavier because the CF was laid over the factory pieces. That is what added the extra weight to his car.

radr already explained it--he wrapped real cf over his existing parts. no matter how light carbon fiber is..its still heavier that wya no matter which way you splice it.

and wrapping carbon fiber is usually more expensive than buying carbon fiber parts--but not always. it depends on the part. many parts in our cars (such as the dash, center console, panels, etc) are injenction-molded. and this is really the only real way you can make these pieces on a mass production scale (with a regular mold, its impossible to form both the front side (face) and rear side (back--which includes precisely placed clips). since injection molds cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, no aftermarket company owns this machinery (its stricly oem pretty much). so this is where carbon fiber WRAPPINg comes into play--its a LOT cheaper because its extremely expensive to get it molded properly.

in the case of a hood, though. where really no clips are needed, you can form the 'face' of the mold and not worry about what the underside looks like..you can form that later. so a pure carbon fiber product is a lot easier to make, keeping the costs dramatically lower (although i still wouldnt call a cf hood cheap--just a hella lot cheaper than what it would be to make a carbon fiber dash or even center console).

this is what i meant by "cheaper to wrap".

Thanks Richard.

Thanks Speed4TheNeed. Good info. Once again, I learned something new for the day.
