And yet..you still her Her as much..

After almost 2 years with my baby... Celica GTS.
Here are a list of things I've noitced and get used to....

1. Don't open/close windows after wash. for at least 6 hours.

2. Engine/belt sqeaks in the morning... until it is warm enough.

3. Sometimes the engine's response is damn good, and
sometimes it is damn bad !! Must be the air quality...

4. Air con is a no no in hot days... maybe in warm..but not hot.

5. Engine is not as quite as when it was new...

6. OMG..the RUSH!! when it hits the LIFT !!

7. Still look Damn GOOD !! better than a lot of cars on the street.

8. The interior looks DAMN GOOD when you look in it from the back of the car. Looks like some hi-tech stuff..

9. I STILL LOVE THIS CAR !

Even if I get a r33-r34 GTR.. I'll still love it

Feel free to add more into the list guyz...
me going to sleep now..

my ac works just fine too... and it gets around the 100's here in the summer. My baby just turned 2 years old March 18th.

I completely agree with #3 though, i swear my car has a mind of its own. Sometimes it just feels fast, smooth, and REALLY responsive/powerful. Then it has its days when it just feels like a slug and doesn't want to do anything or go anywhere.

See GSX's/GS-T's get crankwalk and feel great about yourself. Watch them blow a differential going down the track and feel even better.

Watch them (AWD eclipse's) blow everything away... yeah then you feel pretty crappy. But man the problems are enough to drive you away.....

things you get used to.....

Doors slamming into your knee's if you don't open them far enough... even if you push them out far enough it still might slam into you.

04-09-2002, 12:44 PM
ohhh yeah.. ouchy. a lot of times i just hold the door with my foot on that flat spot in the corner below the speaker.. then again that might not work good for some of you with long legs.

that's rediculous man...it's a small percentage of them....this never happened to my friends and they've owned them for 3-4 years. Even if it was....I'll take those problems though....just give me a damn low 13's car with a turbo and AWD.

I'm glad for your friends. I don't wanna get into a spat here, but if you'll "take those problems"...... A friend of mine recently bought a 98 GSX. It already has had about $500 in work done to it, it's leaking oil, burning it,,,, dunno where the leak is coming from exactly at this point.
I love those cars, but ultimately there is a reason that Mitsubishi decided to stop making them. There's also something to be said for the fact that Mitsubishi couldnt' stop the problem from happening in all the years of the 2nd gen. It happens all the way until 99. Mitsubishi will also not even acknowledge in any way shape or form that it is happening. Ask a service mechanic at a dealership and they'll tell you all about it, ask a salesman or a suit of any kind and they either have no clue or will deny it completely.

MarkyMark

well, the main reason why I'd take those problems is b/c I know a guy who'se a DSM mechanic who fixes everything at his house....engine problems, rebuilds trannies, you name it. If I didnt know him, then I would probably stay away from those cars when the time comes to get a new one.

For all of you complaining about getting another car, I guarantee you will miss the total package that the celica offers. But to each their own...

I have to whole-heartingly agree with that too. haha i'm glad that someone has this problem other than myself.. i thought i was the only one *whew* and been trying to figure this out for months now. Ive even complained to the dealer than I KNOW something's wrong with my car, i tell them "there has to be something wrong, the throttle response is not as good as it used to be, and this is on and off. I know my car and this is NOT normal" or something to that degree. But still they say nothing's wrong

Starting the car in the morning is real suspenseful for me. I start the car praying it's gonna be a responsive day for her, but most times I get her sluggish version.

If J2KGTS6 or anyone else finds the reason for this problem, please tell. The fun factor of driving the celica is down the drain if this can't be fixed, a real heart-breaker to i might add :(

i totally agree with the windows after i wash the car. sometimes after i've washed her & go to pick my brother, he always rolls down the window while i'm half shouting "no, no, no!" and then he turns around and says "what?" looking at me crazy.

everytime, i get into a different car i feel different. i look around and usually think how can you drive this thing? with minor exceptions of course...

and yeah, i still think my ride is hot :)

What you have to get used to the most, in my opinion, is the crappy paint that Toyota puts on the car. I wash the thing once a week, wax it every month, and drive around like an idiot in the hopes of not hitting any rocks, yet I end up getting paint chips all over. My friend has a Supra, doesn't take nearly as good care of it as I do with my Celica and his car does not chip that easily.

AVOID THE DEALERSHIP :)

04-09-2002, 11:24 PM
the blind spots weren't really a problem for me... i got used to it really fast.. and i can see everything through all 3 mirrors.

I know edmunds bitched and complained about it soo much and one of the idiots finally figured out after like 3 months of having the car that you can adjust the mirrors just perfect to see everything. My main thing i had to get used to was parking it. With the way that its shaped at first its hard to tell where the car is at.

I guess maybe because before i was driving a 86' accord dx and i could see the hood and such.. plus i wasn't worried about rubbing a curb with it cause it never hurt the car.

As for the squeeks... a lot of cars have squeeks. My dads 00' Mustang has a lot less miles then my celi and has even more annoying rattles then my car.

I love my car, its the best thing to me.. i wouldn't trade it for anything to be honest. I'm going to buy more cars down the line.. but i'll always have my celica.. i have no plans of ever selling it.. i'll probably have it until its falling apart.

I don't think the sluggish thing is really an issue with the car... i mean its maybe half and half for me, but i normally don't notice because i don't drive it super hard on a daily basis but it sux on those days that i get that serge. But it could be the climate and stuff that affects how it runs.

When my car is low on gas, like around four or five "banannas" left, its feels real loose and doesnt seem to wanna stick to the ground. But after a full tank of premium it feels real solid. Must be the weight, or its in my mind.

Oh yeah, does your car seem to fart ( the smell from the engine ) after hitting near readline when shifting? I have any automatic btw, dont hold it against me =)

CAMmed
04-09-2002, 11:42 PM
i think the main reason for the sluggishness is the weather... the car is more sluggish when its hotter, and more humid. thats when mine feels more sluggish.

the blind spots took a long time (previous car was a volvo)
the ability to rev it till who knows when
the looks you still get when you just clean it
the cool lil gadgets that other people dont have (center compartment, unique interior)
knowing that when other kid's parents bought em corollas and civics .. well you got a better deal
coming to this site n celica.net every couple hours (well in the beginning at least)
and yea.. people have been complaining nonstop ever since the minor bugs appeared .. anybody remember the :
skipping cd player
c-pillar squeaking

and also the first mods?
RMM intake w/ heat shield
Titan CAI w/ CEL
TRD stuff

love my celica

Oh yeah... a few things I forgotten to ADD..
I noticed she'll be in a good mood (revs faster and very good response) more often when.

Turn the engine off at minimum Rev.. around 800RPM (less vibration).
Try not to Engine break... She doesn't like it much. :-D Put into neutral.
Drive above 3000RPM.
Shift above 4000RPM

and the most important one!!
GIVE HER A kiss once in a while.... Trust me..she loves it !

oh yeah..
I still look back at HER everytime I park her....

Yup they aren't bad at all once you adjust the mirrors, I had the car for about a month before I got them just right and now I don't have any problems. As far as all the rattles, they don't really bother me anymore, I'm used to it. I just see the noise as a compromise for light weight and performance so it's worth it. My List of pro's and con's:
1 - The Handling! I've driven other cars, eclipse, WRX, 3000GT, Jetta, Audi, none of them just have the "feel" of the celica. Its so nimble.
2 - Braking. I've got better braking with my rear "drum" brakes than my buddies do with their discs.
3 - The cup holder! Unlike many of you other gents, I LOVE the cupholder. It works absolutely perfect for me, ive learned to keep my elbow in the little lip behind the parking brake, and I dont have a problem no matter what size drink i have. IMO, no car i've ever been in has better cupholders. Of course with the TRD shiftknob, it really changes your arm position, maybe thats it.
4 - Windows/Locks in the middle. Actually, this pisses me off. I don't have the keyless entry, and whenever i forget to lock my doors i either have to climb all the way back in, or fish around in my pockets for my keys and lock her from the outside.
5 - Paint - Black. Enuff said. I'll never buy another black car, thats for sure.
6 - No Squeaks, rattles yet, even with subs in her for 2.5 years.
7 - Spoiler - My d@mn spoiler almost fell off. The bolts came undone.
8 - seatbelt - anyone else have chips in the plastic behind the door?
9 - Gas mileage! I love getting twice the mileage as my buddies 3000GT, and being almost as fast.
10 - The Looks - She just looks so damn pretty....except when she's dirty. Every time she's filthy i start thinking about another car. And then i wash her, and i fall in love all over again.

well 2k GT-S seems pretty consistant no real up or downs in the way it runs, unless i have a bunch of weight in it. But most importantly i have a solution for all the little squeaks, rattles and other annoying things, Hit lift and head for some corners! WOOHOO!:)

I think the car only becomes really responsive when you need them... Like when you are racing or sumthing like that...

But when the engine is real cold, I can floor my gas and the car don't wanna move.... not at all... I have to pump the gas and it works wonder...

I dont get the whole rolling down the windows after the car wash thing

It squeeks after it rains but stops like 2 hours later so I dont mind it at all now, I still think that there is a hailess japanese midget in my engine bay and thats just him bitching after the rain.

My car also has a mind of its own too, sometimes I'll be stepping on the gas going "Hello Im trying to go somewhere" and then other time I'll just blip the throttle and it will slap me back in my seat.
I had a couple of rattles which go away and come back etc... I have a loud ass exhaust and cant hear them even if I tried to now.
One thing that does piss me off is that the passanger can control the drivers side window, I ****ing dispise that with a passsion.

Twice the gas mileage? That might be a little bit of a stretch :)

Hmm, by my powers of deduction, your buddy's 3000GT is a:

1) '91-'96 base model stick

or

2) '91-'99 SL stick

Am I right? :)

Also, does your buddy know about http://www.3si.org/?

Solution to squeeks in the mornings:

Mine did the same... the belt and idling pretensioner needs replacing... i know what you guys are talking about, that squeek was a pain in my ass until i took it to the service magager at the dealership and he put a new belt on and after that the car sounded great...

Solution to Window sealing things:

After you wash your car, dont roll the windows down unless you want to reshine them, there is a passanger side window lock on the dash by the VIP secruity system light...if you have one...

i love my car... just the doors are so d@mn heavy it smacked my gf when she was trying to get out of the passanger side when i parked uphill...

Wash every week
Wax every 2-4 weeks

haha i agree with you~
you can't roll down your windows after carwash cuz

The beeping noise in reverse...when idle feels like the car is farting or misfire specially with CAI...Skipping cd player....sloppy power from 4500-6000 then....WHHOOOAAaaaaa...!!!!.
As for the DSM they don't impress me much.... I have a Honda d16 turbo engine that blows them away...! with much less $$$$ in it..! Yeah.. the DSM AWD can be very fast 1/4 milers in street tires but close encounters in the freeway are almost always won by the 2Wd cars.... AWD are heavy as crap and feel sloppy..
They need about 350 +'s HP and LOt's $$ to run high 12's..
While us in our celis with 250-275HP that's about 6-9psi boost should run 12's all day with some $200 drag sliks...You can build a system for $3000.
