Hi kids, I've been a car enthusiast since ~1997. I still have my '95 civic (B20Z, t3/t04, Quiaffe LSD, and other goodies). I've become very familiar with Hondas and have fallen in love with the DIY aspect of them.
However, the civic is starting to show it's age, I've always loved toyota, and the lines of the new celica GTS's have really grown on me. I know I should search (and I will), but as long as you are reading this maybe you guys can help me out.
How durable is the 2zz (as far as the amt of HP it can endure reliably)? I am accustomed to cars that pull out 13 sec 1/4 mile times (not that I'm into drag racing). What would I need to pull this off (power wise)?
What kind of Fuel and timing management is available? And are there any "freeware" programs out there? (this is why I love Hondas. uberdata, ghettodyne, turbo-edit).
Thanks a lot

Power-wise, the 2zz engine is capable of roughly 250hp turbocharged, and at present, max 200hp n/a. With some internal work however, the 2zz could probably produce upwards of 300hp. Check out threads by Smaay in F/I for the full scoop. Also, the 1zz is a little more capable when it comes to forced induction, and there have been a number of turbocharged 1zzs that can match the power output of turbo'd 2zzs. And with some internal work, we've seen 1zzs hitting the 400hp mark. Check out MWR (www.monkeywrenchracing.com) for a COMPLETE selection of 1&2zz goodies, including low comp pistons, fuel systems (PFC and E-manage), and other go-fast parts.
Oh, and welcome!

used to be all about honda's but since i got the GT-S ive been leaning heavily away from Honda, just like working on this celica better. something different i guess.
def. lots of possibility out there for the 2zz engine, although if your thinkin about going turbo i would go with a 1zz.
just my .02 though.

The 2ZZ is a great engine, but the aftermarket support for the Honda cannot be matched.

lift bolts....the common problem of 2zz...hondas are always a bit better than toyota in performance and price. i would stick with them...

The celica chasis is an awsome starting off point and the reason I bought the car. Stock g-force and slamon speed is aswome. I have to say the stock enginer compared to honda is GARBAGE!!! HOWEVER from what I've seen if you work the internals of the enginer...forged pistons stronger rods...etc the engine is ASWOME!!! sorry for all these caps lol. Anyhow Yamaha developed the enginer and it's a very happy rev high enginer...as I guess hondas are. I think it all depends on what your looking to do with the car and how much you want to spend on it. just an FYI the whole type R head with gs body idea has finnaly been achieved with the 1zz and 2zz. Check out Trial actually I think MWR also has a stroker kit to do it. Thats a hot option tool The trial celica is INSANE!!! Ohh plus the celi's have been ruling the JGTC
