Ok I've done many searches and found much useful info. I was just wondering if you people that have knowledge or have installed an sf turbo kit could post some tips/troubles you guys ran into when installing. I am going to install this weekend or next and I just wanted to see where everyone stands with tough points/tricky wiring with the ss, etc. Thanks everyone.

Wiring to the SS isnt hard. I had somebody else do it for me at first and they ****ed it up and I had to learn it and do it myself afterall.

Useful tips... well, i was going to make a thread about this myself, but I guess ill just throw it in here for you.

Demo

make sure you have bags, marked and labled, for every set of bolts you pull off the car. ex. battery, front motor mount, air box, header, heatsheild, etc. Just go buy a box from walmart.

Dropping the front axle is kinda queer, you need the right socket for it. You might have trouble finding a 30mm deepwell 12 pt socket thats needed for it (or reccomended by toyota). Some people say that they got it without a deepwell, but its a lot harder. I had to get it special ordered.

Get a breaker bar, but im sure you already have that covered. A 2 *foot* pipe should do the trick, you WILL need it.

You are NOT going to drop the engine out of the car when you drop the rear motor mount. Me and my friends were like "eh, you sure this is how you do it?" the answer is yes, lol. Before you try putting the turbo in, make sure you get the axle collar, crossmember, and header brace all the way off the car. (I think some people do it without taking the cross all the way off, I took it off though, made things easier)

Drop the exhaust all the way out, and if you have problems with the bolts, get some liquid wrench rust loosening stuff or wd40 and crank it with the breaker bar. Tear up the passenger carpet, take out the sensor plugs, and pull them through the bottom of the car. (the rubber grommets that seal the bottom of the car pop right out)

For the oilpan, go to ace hardware and get a sharpened putty knife with a metal butt on it. Take a ruber mallot to the end of that and knock it off. This was really easy after i figured that out.

Construction:

Get teflon tape, and wrap all of the brass fitting and where the oil feed line goes into the turbo. Dont just wrap them once, either, wrap them 4 or 5 times to make sure there is going to be an oil tight seal whenever you tighten them down. For the return line, get a 3/4" line and a 5/8 barbed copper fitting from home depot or lowes (im assuming you dont have the fitting because it was from a used kit, if he did give you a fitting, ignore that) and also get two small clamps. clamp the HELL out of the hose onto the turbo and onto the return fitting barb. (even though its 1/8" smaller than the hose, it wont come off... they dont sell 3/4 barbed fittings in copper)

The FMU is really easy once you start digging into it, i thought it would be a bitch but it wasnt. The thing on top goes to vaccum, the one hose goes to the fuel rail, and the last goes to the fuel feed line. (DO NOT hook the fuel feed line up to the fuel return. I did this and primed my engine to get oil to the turbo, and gas arched out of my engine bay everywhere. It ruined my headlight, too. I guess the gas eats away plastic. *sigh*) The one wire is for ground and the other goes to the SS relay. Heres a shot of where the hoses are going to go.

Intercooler is a bitch, have a friend help you to hold it up while you feed the washers through and bolt it up. Charge piping is a bitch too, expecially the section that goes from the turbo to the intercooler. You cant be a bitch with these pipes. Push them where they need to go! Whenever you go to tighten down the couplers, dont use a screwdriver. Use an 8mm (might be 9mm) socket to tighten them down. 100x easier and you can get them on there 10x stronger. The one that goes on the turbo is the hardest to position, and mine has came off a few times so i've had to do it a few times (im a pro by now). Whenever you first start to put it on you are going to say "now how the hell does this..." just twist it, get it in there, and use the 8mm socket with a big of an extension as you have and tighten it from below. Get the clamp pushed as close to the turbo as you can so it tightens on the lip. I ziptied the pipe that goes below the car to my crossmember a few times because I had a problem with it rattling/hanging low. With my sportline drop and 40 series tires with 16" rims, it wasnt working out for me too well to say the least.

SS wiring... check out my thread here.

I have lots of good pictures and lots of good help from people on that thread. It should answer most anything you were wondering about it. Just solder all your wires and you should be fine. Once you start its not bad, just intimidating before hand.

You might have read about it already, but there is a line that runs from the back of your motor to your throttle body. You have to take this off. When you do, there will be a hole in your throttle body. Whoever sent you the kit probably sent you a rubber stoper of some sort. Plug this on that hole. If you dont do this you will have all sorts of smoke from burning oil. Here is a pic that you should be able to see the stoper on. (its the black peice on the left side of my middle finger)

Vacuum lines are explained pretty well in my thread here

http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=168781

You should be able to see how it runs. Not hard at all, i was nervous about vac lines before I started.

TAKE YOUR TIME. My install took me more than 70 hrs. (I also did a full suspension, but still) I had a friend helping me for most of those hours too. The biggest project I had done ebfore this was a catback exhaust, so thats a reason it took me so long... but just expect for it to be up on jackstands for atleast a week, depending on how experianced you are. If you come up with any problems, just post a thread on here, which you probably will once or twice, I did. People on this site are always willing to help too, i owe a big part of my car to newceli.org. PM me if you have ANY questions, doesnt matter how stupid. I had a bunch of stupid questions before i started digging under the hood.

Tip: Take your time and make sure all connections are correct and secure. Plus if you have an exhaust leak, find it and have it fixed...
