Not sure if you all know, but here's a tip. If you don't want your headlights or DRLs to come on, pull up your ebrake before you start your car. The lights won't come on till you put down the ebrake.

Not that I'm saying you should drive around with your ebrake up, just nice to know.

yup and if you pull it so it's only up one notch you can drive with it to no problems

isnt the drl just controled by one fuse so if you take it out it disables it but nothing else, the fuse i've seen is in the engine fuse box

So if you take it out, you won't be able to use one of the lights.

I live in Canada so i don't know how our laws differ from the USA on stuff like this but i know my Celica has DRLs (Daytime Runing Lights) and automatic night head lights which turns on the full headlamp system at night. When you people talk about disabling the DRLs, does it do the automatics too?

i disabled it without cutting any wire or leaving the ebrake up one notch.

when i installed my kumosport bushings i took my center thing apart. there is a small brown switch under the ebrake that is a button. what you do is unscrew it, flip it so the ebrake does not push down on the switch (which activates the DRL/auto-on), and make sure u screw it back in (grounds it i think). the bad thing is when u release the ebrake, the BRAKE light stays on since you arent hitting that button (that sez whether or not hte ebrake has come down). but i can easily go back to original.

interesting... besides the DRL disable, can you disable the auto-on headlights as well? (besides the ebrake method)

I don't think you are breaking any motor vehicle/state laws by disabling these auto features, however insurance companies give discounts for these features, so if they find out you disabled them, they won't be happy and will stop giving you the discount

I'm pretty sure disabling the DRL also disables the autoOnLights

Sorry but I like the auto lights :)

yeah when i cut that wire i also have to manually turn my lights on.. i personally like that alot better.. it was annoying going under an underpass and have them click on then to reach the end and then they click off.. theyre too sensitive IMO..

You're very welcome guys.

And as the title on the page suggests, my simple one wire method kills the DRLs and the auto on feature. We are all big boys and girls...I think we can decide when we do and do not need lights.

(I should like a damn infomercial, don't I? Sheeet.......)

hey,all

just cut the DRL wire while I was on 15 min break. And still had time left over. I thought it was going to be a long process of removing interior panels and hunting for the right wire. I just took off the shift boot and looked in and there it was (yellow/green stripe) the first wire i saw. i taped off the cut ends as not to cause a short.

Easy easy easy!!! A++ tip!! Thanks all

cool, I didn't know it disabled the auto-on headlights as well. I'm definitely gonna do it, but add a switch so I can easily control it.
