i just recentley bought a vis hood. I don't like the way hoodpins look so i didn't use them, anybody ever had a problem with a vis hood with no hoodpins?

I had an old VIS hood w/no pins. I had it on for about 2 years with no probs at all. I did noticed it flap a little with my raised scoop though and it scared the crap out of me. I didn't dare go above 85mph. I got in a wreck awhile back and scratched the hood so I picked up a new one w/pins. I feel much more secure with pins on and after hearing the stories about the hood flying up, i feel much more confident. The look has grown on me too.

I have vis invader cf now. just install it. I tested it in the freeway going 90 mph. it seem okay. Its actually steady on a high speed. I will go more than 90 mph.

its beyond peace of mind but a basic safety issue

Do a search, like RKe1CA says... we have a huge topic on that covering that already. But, IMO if you even are a little afraid about your hood coming up, get the D*MN pins and call it the day. Remember the safe & sorry ads? be safe.

its done! i tested 100 mph, for like a min. then i run out of runway. Then a consistant of 80 mph.

i live in windy city (chicago) and going 90 on highway. slight vibration on the hood but other than that i have not problems at all. however, i wouldn't rely on it without pins... yes pins will make the hood ugly but it's there for a reason... SAFETY

they are more of looks than safety. The hoods dont magically fly up more than stock ones. The latches inlaid with the cf on a good hood are as strong if not stronger than stock so its not even an issue. Unless your front bumper is off or the weather seal is shot there shouldnt be any air going under it to pull it up anyways. The scoop shouldnt matter because the incoming air is diverted over the headers and engine block

You might want to retract your stement. There are a number of members here who have had their CF hoods fly up and crack their windsheild and damage their roof. All of them did not have hoodpins on.

Dude, you are nuts. Hood pins are not for looks they are only for safety. Most people hate the look of hood pins and so do I but they are nice to have for piece of mind. However, I still haven't installed mine yet so I can't say much. Anyways I have had my VIS hood for quite a long time but I will be installing pins soon, as much as I do not want to it needs to be done.

Anyways as far as what you said about hoods not moving much, then I suspect you do not own a hood like this and are talking out of your ass because I have a GRADE AAA VIS hood with a C-one scoop that weighs about 6-7 pounds at most and believe me it moves quite a bit at 70-80mph. It is really scary at 100 mph or so and I would recommend anybody running these types of hoods to get hoodpins. If you rode in my car doing say 100mph or so you would be flipping out because of how much the hood moves. Anyways its always better to be safe.

:wtf: I advise you to learn more about a topic before you reply.

Yeah hood pins are for safety. I know the hood latch is good enough. My hood is a VIS invader grade AAA with a c-one hood scoope also. For my reference, I just don't want hood pins. I'll even take a video if you want, so everyone can see how much it vibrates on certain mph. Anyways, I'm not really worry about it.

even ViS itself states that you should use hoodpins with their hoods..and they all come with latches.

Get the pins, paint them black if you dont like them so they wont show up as much.... i've had my car to 140 with the pins in and its fine, i wouldnt dare go that fast without them...

Eh, if it has a scoop on it and it is CF then it is going to float. The Invader hoods by VIS don't come up as much because they have that huge reverse scoop right in front of the main scoop so the reverse scoop diverts a good bit of the air. However, any hood with a scoop, my VIS OEM hood as well, will float quite a bit even travelling at low speeds, if you pass by some 18 wheelers and whatnot. It is really all up to you. I am like Blue Bat and his experiences, but I advise most people to get them because I have been up to speeds of 120mph+ before and the hood floats a lot and I mean a lot. Put it this way I have scared people riding with me. Its all up to you man.

I have a VIS OEM CF hood with a rainsed hoodscoop and i ordered hoodpins and they did not come. so i called again and they did not send them a second time so i gave up and got used to the way it looks without them. Also i kind of like it without because i dont speed as much. When your hood is shaking at 75mph you tend to slow down hahaha

I bought mine for $540 and for some reason I cant rem off hand where i got it ill have to check my invoice. They sent it to me with a cracked hood scoop and i had to send it back. But its real sweet cause it comes with a UV ray protection coating
