Hey all,
Dosen't it suck when you get new rims and tires, and your speedo becomes nearly useless?
Well, I've made guage over-lays with the acurate Mph next to the stock ones. I'll have picks up next week. I've already made some for people in my car club, and now I'm ready to make them for you. All I need from you is the Old/New tire dimensions. It goes over the guage so there's hardly any work involed. The new Mph fits between the stock mph and Kmh. can do just about any color. I haven't set up a price scale yet so I'll let you know.
Please Post if you think this is a good product you'd want in your Celica.

What size tires and rims did you get toi make your speedo be so far off?
I can't see the difference being that far off. I've never switched rims where my speedo has only been off like 3-5mph and even in stock form the speedo is never completely on target. Where are you testing this that you know it's different?

I use a gps in my car that has your current speed displayed. Plus I'll test it more this weekend with other drivers.
I went down in side walls. so when the speedo reads 60 I'm really only going 54.2.
stocks are 205/55/r16 new ones are 205/40/r16. it make quite a difference on your speedo.

Our stock size is really 205/50/16 if you drive a celi. You car must really look like a 4X4 with that size tire.

Generally you want to try to keep the same rolling diameter/circumference when you buy new tires and/or wheels. If you do that the speedo error won't be significant enough to matter (or require new gauges ;)).

Umm, no offense, but why in the heck did you go to 40 series tires with the same section width and rim diameter as stock? Is that some sort of cheap way to make the wheel/tire combo look sportier (because of the lower profile?)? :wtf:
well you found your problem then.... why did you go with a tire that's really far off stock?

There's a tire calculator online that will tell you how far out your speedo will be. Just ignore any reference to Miatas.

The tires I bought are BFGoodrich Scorcher T/A w/red stripes.
On my celica I have Red Neon underbodies, red hood scoop, red wiperarms, red rear fill-ins, red front lower spoiler, red door sills, red mesh grill, red calipers, and I'm gonna have my oem guage backlites changed to red, and paint various interior pieces and pieces under the hood red.
So the only size scorcher they make that would fit stock rims had a 40 side wall.
I'll post pixs, on my club web page and post a link sometime next week.
Still 5mph off is not that horrible and still doesn't require new guages.....

it's not a new guage! It's a piece of transparent palstic,(over-head projector stuff), with the new mph readings next to the old ones.
I used autocadd to draw it and just print it out, then cut out the guage over-lay and install.
you pull your guages out, take off the clear plastic cover, and the bezzle and lay it under the neddle. replace the bezzle which holds it in place, then reinstall. it maches up with all the tick marks on the speedo.
so, next to the stock numbers are the modified numbers due to the tires size change.
well then you have no reason to complain about the difference in your speedo.... that's really all i'm getting at
