View Full Version : I'm starting to get pissed... how long does it normally take to paint a kit?

I took my kit to bodypros last week tuesday and they told me they would need a week. So I'm cool with this thinking it doesn't take longer than a week to paint a kit, but these guys supposedly do really good work so I will give them the time.

Well I called last friday to check up on their progress and they said to call back next week. So I call them on Monday and they say it should be done by maybe wednesday and for sure on thursday. So I call them this morning(wednesday) and The guy says he may not be able to install it until next monday! He says that there are a lot of car shows coming up and big companies are harassing him to finish their cars first. Now I'm pissed because I am a customer just like them. If he had so much work to do then he should have told me in the first place that it would have taken longer than a week and I would have gone somewhere else. If all these big companies are paying him big money to paint their cars then he's not gonna lose sleep over not having my 700 bucks.

Now the scary part is, I was talkin to azntrd2k at the unison chat yesterday and he said bodypros had his car for a whole month to paint his kit. And they used the same damn excuse to him as they did to me.

I told the guy that if he cant do it by tomorrow then I just want to take my kit somewhere else. He said he already has it sanded and primered and just has to paint it. If its not done by tomorrrow what do you think should I do? Do I have the right to get my money back(at least some of it) and take my kit somewhere else to get painted if I'm not happy?

i think you raise a lil hell, tell them when you initially gave it to them they said a week, and it turns out to be longer, tell them that you need it badly, and see if you can get some money back for their delay...

i hate crap like that

he's already starting on it let them finish it. Maybe your expecting too much? I think by giving them this 1 day limit to get it or walk your going to pressure them and they might rush it and it will look like ****.

I would take it elsewhere,

Should take no longer then 3 days to sand, paint and primer.

I mean they have a good reputation, but the wait isnt worth it, there are many other places out there that are just as good or better. Its just paint. <---dont flame me for that, you know what I mean.

body pros is an awesome shop, and because of this many quality show cars and race cars get painted there...the show/race season is starting to get into high gear and A lot of these folks easily pay over 6g for there custom paint jobs .... because of this they get first priority over everyone else....it sucks but that's how it is

when it does get done though it will be quality...

That may be true, but then he should have warned me in the first place that he had a lot of cars to do this week. I would have been able to go somewhere else and get it done within a week. I dont care how much someone paid to get their car painted. If I brought my car into the shop before them then I should get priority. And if there were a ton of cars before me and he knew this, then thats just jacked for telling me that the car would be done in a week when it just ain't happening.

This is the reason why I switched shops. They take forever to paint parts and I got sick of harassing them to finish my stuff. They also do big guy first plus sema coming up next week. They do good work for the big boys but dont put us as a prority.

I would leave it there becouse every other shop is booked up and it would definatly be longer then a week to get it done. Just examine your parts carefully after they are done. Body pros will fix them if there are flaws thats the good thing about them.

I took my body kit to Joe at WetWorks garage today. He's a really nice guy and let me know right away that he wouldnt be able to have it done within a week since he has alot of cars getting ready for import shows. He also wouldnt let me us the mesh grille i bought from home depot. He just said something like "You dont want that ****ty chicken wire stuff..." And told me that he had some better grille and would install those for me instead. His grills are DAMN impressive, and i'll post a pic of it when i get my kit installed (2 weeks)

Anyways, thanks to Isaac and Paul from team unison for referring me to Joe. Great guy, great price, straight and to the point about things, and really seems like he knows what hes doing :) I'll get pics up ASAP once i get it installed :D

Ooh honesty. What a concept huh? makes happier customers...

BTW, Bodypros told me this morning that my kit was painted and being dryed. They said to call back around 4pm. Well I do that and then he says it wont be done till sometime next week. What kind of crap is that? At least be honest about it. But the good news is he knocked off 100 bucks. $605 now painted and installed with the grills.

From start to finish, painting a full kit should take roughly 2-3 days. One day to spot fill, sand, prep and primer, then another to shoot. Most shops will also have the sense enough to make sure it dries for a day just to be safe. Then some final buffing to get the imperfections out. It only takes a long time if they take forever to get to your stuff, but with a lot of bodyshops there's a lot of other cars they have to do and they just work on your kit inbetween jobs.
