The A/C in my car blows hot air. I know this is probably not the cause of the problem but I opened up the engine bay to see if all my fluids are good. After running the car for about half an hour, when the car was off, I opened up the engine coolant reservoir and it made a "pssshhh" sound then all the coolant started to pour out. Is that normal or is that a sign that something is not working right. I'm guessing I need some frion for the a/c but what's up with the coolant pouring out the top like that.

That just means you had a bit of air in your coolant system. It's normal, especially if you've had your coolant changed before. If you didn't have any air, all coolant would've come out. It's just the leftover pressure from the cooling system. It won't affect the AC like that, though. Maybe you have a leak, or the system just needs to be recharged.

It seemed like whomever filled the engine coolant last overfilled it thus creating the built up pressure. I didn't really know if it was a problem or not so I just wanted to make sure. I guess I gotta take my car somewhere to get the a/c filled. Any thoughts of how much that usually runs?

Coolant systems are supposed to be pressurized when hot. Not sure about getting the AC recharged, but I need to do this, too.

Has anyone ever recharged the A/C? Is it something I can do under the hood myself or not?
Damn, I think i need to do this soon too, do the a/c systems not last too long in celicas? My wife's 96 probe still has great a/c.

you have to take it to the dealer to have the A/C recharged...

I thought cars built after 94 used a different type of freon where you did not need a certified professional to refill

You can try to recharge AC yourself. Pepboys, etc have special R134A kits even with manometers.
But the truth is all US Celicas 2000-2001 have no grille in front of condenser. Any stone can destroy it. It's almost impossible to solder the aluminum condenser, you have to change it. So first check your condenser for cracks.

Don't you just attach a recharge can on the high side which is on the passenger side of the engine bay towards the back, turn the car on and turn the a/c on? Sounds simple.
