like the title says? What reason is there to oil or re-oil your air filter?
I mean wouldn't it cause more dirt and junk buildup?

If you didn't know. Oil catches dust alot better than something that's dry.

it's better having the dirt buildup on the filter than in the engine.

A reusable air filter, like a K&N, needs to be re-oiled after washing so that the filter will trap dirt. For this type of filter, there is very little filter action after washing, before it's oiled.
