So as i mentioned in my other thread, im going to be doing 2 amps and 2 subs.

Im looking to do 2 MTX Thunder502 (500w RMS each) and 2 JL Audio 12w6v2's.

The only thing now that I am confused about is the ohms. JL specifies "Available Configurations: Dual 4 ohm only". MTX specifies the power range of the amp to be "500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms bridged".

Is this gonna work ok? Thanks in advance for your help.

EDIT: I've also been looking around at "Class D Mono Amps", are they any good? (specifically the Alpine MRD-M605 V12 600w amp.)

It's odd that the JL subs are dual 4 ohm only.... if that wasn't the case you should run the coils of each sub in parallel, get yourself a 2 ohm load.... and assuming the MTX can hadle a 2 ohm load (probably), you'd be fine. But, if the JLs cannot have their coils run in parallel (I don't see whynot), then (with that particular setup) you'd be forced to run only one of the dual coils of each sub, and that wouldn't be good either.

Basically, if you haven't purchased this stuff yet, look at getring a different sub (one that can have it's coils run in parallel).

Just remember that once you bridge a 4ohm stereo amp to mono operation, it "sees" a 2-ohm load from a 4-ohm source.

IIRC, my old DVC w4s had twin 4-ohm voice coils. I had to wire them in series to my BRIDGED (run mono vs. stereo) Alpine MRV1000 back in the day. This simulated a 4-ohm total load for my amp.

Unless your amp is stable to 1-ohm operation, DO NOT hook up the voicecoils parallel into a bridged amp configuration. I know for a FACT that MTX amps are not capable of this so go with the running the voicecoils in series.

There's a lot of confusion on this topic obviously. The short answer to your question is "yes" it will work. Being a D4 woofer, it will be a 2 ohm woofer or an 8 ohm woofer. The woofer is shipped to you with the VC's wired in parallel.
If the amp delivers full power into 4 a ohm load, it would produce half this power into an 8 ohm load.
I would check with MTX to see if the amp can handle 2 ohms mono. Otherwise, you could save the money and buy one. It would be the same total power.

My B, I thought he was using a mono amp. :crazy2:
