Sorry if this has been asked. I'm new to this suspension stuff. I just bought TRD coilovers, Stoptech BBK, rear disc brake conversion kit and Stoptech discs for the back.
Now I'm looking for a good deal on sway bars. SupraStore has the Hotchkis Sport sways for $268. Anybody know of a cheaper place to get them?
Also, is the other stuff I bought any good? I heard some people have problems with the TRD coilovers.
What else is a good mod to improve handling? Not that the Celica needs to be improved, but why not make it better.

Get the competition sway bars. You'll regret it later if you don't.

I think Titan Motorsports still sells Hotchkis sways for $250 shipped. PM Bottle to confirm.
As for the quality of your current parts, I've heard nothing good about TRD coilovers. Everything else is fine.
Good tires are the best handing mod next to sways and coilovers. Get the competition sway bars. You'll regret it later if you don't.

Hotchkis competition bars are worth whatever you pay for them!! but you should get some stronger endlinks in the process

yeah, eric.... i was going to purchase the trd coilovers a while back before i got my teins, but a lot of people said they were blowing out like crzy and the spring rate sucked.... i love my teins.. big time.... ill let you ride and see man... their was a guy selling the ssp's with efdc kit for a grand....... and mine are just the basics... the ssp's can adjust camber and all and with efdc....<--- very good deal... id be all over them if i didn't have some.... im going to go with hotchkis also for most of my suspension... rebuildn my stash right now... :naughty:

the ssp's can adjust camber and all and with efdcYou can only adjust strut damping with the EDFC. You need to adjust the camber by hand (or ideally have an alignment shop do it).

Thank you very much everybody. I'll take your words for it. Hotchkis competition sways it is.
I think I'm stuck with the TRD coilovers though. Not sure if anybody would want them. I'm probably the last person on this site to find out that they are no good. Oh well, they look good right?
Coop,
Sounds good. Thought you were coming by? I went and bought some beer just because you said you were coming over. Well, we are about to sit down and watch a movie now. Maybe some other time.
Thanks again everybody.

Put them on eBay.

Good idea, but are they really that bad? Not trying to make a track car or anything. Just want to make it better than stock. Maybe I'll try them out for a year and replace them later if I don't like them.
When I put lowering springs on my stock shocks, my car could take turns better, but if I hit a bump in the road, it would slam the hell out of me.
If the TRD coilovers make the car handle as well as the lowering springs did AND ride smooth over bumps, I'll probably be happy with them. I think it would take somebody with a lot more experience than me to notice a difference between a good set of coilovers and the TRD's. No?
I think you will like the TRD ones if you haven

Thanks many,
I'll be sure to never ride in a car with good coilovers so I will always like mine.(kidding)
I think I would give up a little handling for a smoother ride, so maybe I will like them.
Thanks for the tip on the tires. I'll take your advise on those.
Thanks Justin,
but I think I'll keep them. I'll let you know if I decide to sell them though. They are still new.
So why would you want them? I thought you have a set already and I thought you had trouble with them? Maybe I'm thinking of somebody else though.
Somebody was just selling a really good set of Teins in the for sale forum. Why not get those if you need a set of coilovers?

I might get he Teins but I really wanted another set of the TRD's to experiment with. I have had a lot of problems with mine but I think it is mainly due to crappy alignments and some mismatched parts. I love the beefiness and the design of the strut themselves in the TRD coilover. I just think that the springs or something is too soft. I wanted a second set of TRD's to play with so I could get them revalved and respringed to my specs, so that way I would have a set on hte car while I was getting the others reworked. I might get the Teins though cause I haven't had a set of those yet so...! Who did you get your TRD's from? I thought they were discontinued.
By the way you should have no problems with the struts blowing, that is a bunch of nonesense. They seem well built and are rebuildable when the time comes. I just think the parts are not the best matched for all out performance but the ride is great, almost as good as stock on mine with 215/40-17 tires so...! Anyways let me know something.

Well that's good to know Justin. I feel better about them already. I know it's bad to buy things just because they look good, I love entering car shows and Love having everything on my car look good. I think the TRD's are the best looking coilovers for my red car.
I didn't know they were discontinued. Wonder why they quit making them. I bought them from a member on EC about a year ago. I forget his SN.
Seems like a reason people have trouble with them is from lowering too much. I'll stick to the drop TRD recommends.
Got another question about the sways. Does anybody know if it would be bad to have a set of sway bars chromed? I show my undercarriage at car shows and need a few chrome parts under there for more points.
no not a good idea, you can chrome every other moving part but I wouldn't touch the sway bars!

You think the chrome would crack from flexing too much? I can't think of that many things that could be chromed on our undercarriage.

I'll trade you some chromed sways for that TRD CF wing centerpiece you just bought :naughty: :chuckles:!

I'd get them nickel or zinc plated instead of chromed.

LOL! No thanks. That is a part I gave up on because I figured I would never find it. When I seen that for sale, I sent that money as fast as I could. He said it needs a new clear coat. Hopefully I can get it to look new again.
I was wondering if you were going to ask me about that blade. Somebody said...."Now we can tell Blue we seen one for sale with a brake light". Not sure what they were talking about.

Thanks Blue,
What does nickel or zink plated look like? Is that something that could be polished? Do you know of any other parts of the undercarriage that could be done also? Eventually, I would like most of the undercarriage to be chromed or polished. That's something most show cars forget about and it's worth a lot of points.
