I need to know if that top nut on the front shocks is resusable. It says in the manual that you can't reuse them, I need to know what others have done, do I just need to go to a toyota dealership or what?

Hmmm, I've reused it twice.

...wasn't aware it wasn't reuseable. :ugh:

my friend thinks it may be talking about the dust seal but it is clearly marked that the bolt is not reusable. I'm not sure what to think, but if you've reused it then I'll do the same Sunday. Was there anything you replaced at all on the assembly? (obviously other than the springs).

Nope, I went from stock suspension to stock struts with hotchkis spring to the tokico HP spring/strut combo and the only things I had to replace were the friggin endlinks!!!:furious:
...make sure you use an air impact wrench when you take those things off.

I've had my front struts off a few times and reused that nut every time. I don't see why you couldn't reuse it... You are talking about the nut under the rubber boot on the upper strut mount under the hood right?

I'd get a garage to do it properly if you're not sure. They can realign the tracking and stuff once they're finished too.

nah, I'm installing the springs, there's no doubt about that. I know how to do it it's just that when looking at the instructions I had never noticed before that that is supposedly a non-reusable part. Of course I can't do the alignment myself, but I can easily make it to the shop before it becomes a serious problem. Besides the only shop I really trust around here wanted $400 to install the springs. Not worth it when I can do it myself.

^^^Um, how can a bad alignment cause serious problems other than the fact it might put early wear and tear on your tires and various suspensionsparts, but other than that and your car generally handling bad, how is this bad?

it will eat your tires up..I did a set every 11 months on hard daily driving...

get this fixed immediately, but as soon as you hit a few potholes go get it checked. And the more parts you add suspension wise, the more you could use a new alignment...

Yeah, I'm not one to leave stuff undone on my car, I've had some setbacks but hopefully I'll be installing the springs today.

Yeah they're 19mm and I had a helluva time getting them off, but I'm done now  and I'm going to get an alignment in an hour or so.
