hey guys i had a question in regards to cutting carbon fiber with a dremel. After making my cf piece with 2 layers of resin i got my dremel and started to cut the shape of the piece i wanted. The only problem is that when all that powder dust thing gets on the top of the nice clear resin layer it makes it all hazy. How do you prevent that because without the nice clearness, cf is worthless for show pieces. I tried taping the top side but it left sticky crap from the tape.
Before i start cutting am i suppose to spray a uv clear coat first?

You should mask off the shape that you need so that the dust doesn get on the resin. Although the resin should be dry enough so that the dust should wipe right off.

i do, but the sticky part of the tape gets on the resin and messes it up. And it can't be still wet because i let the resin sit 24hrs before i evern put the tape on

oh didnt see this and that it gets on the resin. you have to have the cf clear coated first so you can clean it off...

You should cut it at the "green" cure stage (look up curing times) when the resin is not fully hardend but sorta soft and flexible...Carbon fiber dust and resin is bad to breath so make sure u take proper precautions if you cut it when fully hardend.

yea that smell of carbon is crap. I used a disposable mask but i think i'll buy a resp with the cartridge before i cut again. O and I bought some clear coat and it fixed the problem like a charm except I can't get rid of the air bubble.
New question. How do I get curves and just straight cuts almost perfect? Do I need to buy a drill press with the mill table and do it that way? Basically right now i'm just using sheers, dremel (cutting whell, grinding wheel), and a file. Can't seem to get it straight. Any help on this one?
