Don't know if this has been discussed but does anyone know where I can get the smoke smell out of my car and get that new car smell back. Everything that i used that says "new car smell" smells like pee or toilet paper or the restrooms. I use febreeze to take out the smoke smell but it leaves a girly scent behind.

Any help would be appreciated...

The biggest no no is letting anyone smoke in your car if you want it to smell new. You've got to clean everything! Plastics, seats, carpet, and headliner. Fabreeze will kill the smoke smell by over powering it with the flowery smell. Clean everything and at least it will smell like car care products. If you have leather seats use a good cleaner and conditioner like Lexol last and it will leave a little bit of new leather smell in the car.

yeah but i don't have leather... do you know of any products that actually smell like "new car"... like those little cans or a spray or anything? otherwise good advice. I think i'll bring it down to the local car wash and have them amorall and shampoo everything.

The new car smell actually comes from the adhesives used to seal material (fabric mostly) together. I have not found any type of air freshener that simulates this. As far as getting out the smoke smell goes though, you can go to a sporting goods store, and they should have some odor eliminator that is used to take to stink out of sports equipment that has been used and stored for a while. Needless to say, the product does not give off a flowery smell as it would not be used by nost athletes if it did. Not sure of the name of the peoduct I used, but it had no smell. In addition, I am not sure of the version of febreeze that you used, but there are several versions. The original one is for use around the house, but there is also now one designed to eleimate odors in your car (specifically smoke). I haven't used it, so I don't know how it smells, but it may be better than the household version.

Hope this helps!

woahhhh thanks everyone for your responses.... that will really help me out.

BrianW-I used the febreeze for the car one, it has the flowery smell to it, but not as strong.

I also found this spray that my local toyota dealership carries called smoke out and it comes in "new car" and actually does smell like new car. i'm gonna try it.

That new car smell is emitted from your interior plastics. It's a chemical called DOP. Don't bother with any of those "New Car Smell" air fresheners - they smell like straight *****! I've heard of people using either used or unused oil (can't remember which) and putting it in a shallow dish and letting it sit on the floor somewhere. I've never tried it but I might get the urge pretty soon. Right now the leather/vinyl/plastic cleaner that I use makes my car smell like new, so I don't really need to worry about it. If you're interested, it's called Blue Magic leather/vinyl/plastic cleaner.

Is there a place where we can get the eopxy, glue or whatever that causes that smell? I wouldn't mind getting that smell back.

Heres my secret! you first clean all your interior parts with a good plastic cleaner and vacumm your carpet. heres the good part you get those " Bounce dryer sheets" and hide them under your seats and roll your windows up.( i use about 4-6 sheets) Leave it in there for a good amount of time, overnight works the best. and VOILA!!no more smoke smell. well for me it works! hehe
