For performance:
2001 has less probs than 2000 and probably less miles.

2002 have the 7800rpm rev limiter.
2003+ have DBW (electronic throttle)

But if you plan to get a PowerFC, you can add 2002 to the list since you can ignore the rev limiter issue.

2003+ have the black interior(actually just a darker gray), but also the before mentioned drive by wire which the PowerFC can't handle.

i personally like 2003+, i think the little interior modifications are much nicer.

The best one for mods is a low mileage 2001, guess 2002 if you get the powerfc. The 03+ do have the nicer interior, revised instrument display, and feels of better quality, but the DBW will seriously hold you back from modding it to its full potential.

And stay away from an 05 GT-S, that's the worst one, it combines all the worse things all together, 7800rpm rev limiter + DBW, and I think an even stricter ECU and emissions parts, making it almost impossible to mod.

just wait until an EMS comes out that is compatible with DBW. I still say get an 03

02 is the best in my opinion, if it comes to the interior, you couls just pop the dash and paint it...

:werd:

also, the '02 has the newer-style, wider shift gates, so that can be a good or bad thing depending on the person.

Also the early 2000's have a 6k lift engagement instead of 6200.

I don't know where you got that from but, I doubt that's true. I bought mine in Jan 2000 and it has the 6200 lift engagement.

I've never heard of the 6K engagement either. Knew someone that had an early 00 model and it had the 6200 lift.

I would say go for an 01. All the quirks from the 00 have been worked out. I haven't had a single problem with mine!

:bs: I really don't think they would change the ecu configuration after the production of a few models.

What is your VIN#?

I have an early 2000 and my lift kicks in at 6000 rpms.
Also the narrower shift gates for 2000.
I say 2000. They may have higher mileage but they may be cheaper too.

That is a true fact, some GT-S produced in '99 had lift kicking in @ 6000rpm. They were called the pre-production models, because the official launch of the car was in 2000.

yea i found one of those pre-production models with 89k, all stock owned by the old lady. She wants 10k so i will see lol.

Dynos shows that 6200rpm switchover makes better power than 6000rpm. People with the powerfc sticks with that point.
