Hey Guys.

Want to know if it any good to go to best buy for a custom setup. I'm looking in the direction of Rockford. Or do you think a custom shop could do better ?

Thank

A custom shop will be a much better choice. They will be in a much better position to work with you on your design criteria than BestBuy.

Ditto. They may not be as good up front with pricing as Best Buy (large chain store) but the quality of work, attention to detail, and out the door satisfaction will be much higher with a good custom shop. They may even install any equip that you have already purchased (ie, from Best Buy). Ask around in your local forum for suggestions to shops in your area.

According to audio forums I've been on, rumor has it that Rockford Fosgate is a huge stakeholder in Best Buy and uses different production techniques in their equipment that Best Buy sells. The result is a cheaper version that they can sell for a lesser price.. this is just what I heard. I'd check around before you go buy something there.

And even if this rumor isn't true.. I wouldn't even let their installers sit in my car. I've heard too many horror stories about their messy work...

If you MUST go have your car audio done at a retail chain.. go to Tweeter. But steer clear of Best Buy and Circuit City.. as always, you get what you pay for. The Tweeters around here are pretty good.. dunno about elsewhere. Although, the guy I sold my old sub to had his installed there and they hooked it up wrong and blew the sub.. but there will always be exceptions.

I'd say go to a custom shop.. but not any old custom shop.. ask around. You're in CA .. there's gotta be TONS of nice custom car audio shops. Just make sure you go somewhere where they warranty their work for the life of the car/equipment. I go back and get mine tuned all the time where they did my work...

i work in the car audio shop in best buy. been there for about a year and a half. if you have questions, ask me, PM me or email me. zcs626@hotmail.com

custom setup through best buy, no. but we have inexpensive products for what you're looking for. as for fosgate, it all depends on the model b/c we are so large we do have some different models that are "best buy" models.
as for tweeter, they are gay ignorant bastards and will give you attention if you even walk in flashing 100 bills. at least the tweeter next to me that is. and it all depends on the install bay, all of our guys in our bay have been w/ best buy for at least 4 years and the supervisor has been installing for about 15 years total.

I guess it depends on how hardcore "custom" you would like to go. Best buy can do basic setups. Beware though, best buy will try to rip u off on the installation. They try to sell u stuff that u dont need. (used to work there as well)

also depends on the quality of equipment you want. sorry to say, fosgate stuff is dookie. You'd be better off going to a custom shop if you want quality stuff. If you are going to spend some money, spend it on better stuff like Phoenix gold, JL Audio, Image Dynamics.. There are lots more..
Just depends on what youre looking to spend really.

Go to a custom shop...you might have to pay a little bit more, but you'll be much happier with your system.

The average BB installer doesn't know when the hell he's doing. The scariest thing you will ever see will be when he sits down in your car and pulls out the instruction manual for setting the system up. I'd stick with a custom shop where the guys have experience and know what they're doing.

Wow guys thank for all the input you given me. I've really think i'll go to a custom shop where the should have more experience. I really don't know too much about and setup i'm looking for so I guess I just have to ask around and c what the best they can offer me.

Thank for the help.
