possible to tune the powerfc from scratch (apexi base map) only using the commander? or the datalogit is a must?

yes possible to tune from scratch but you need to have wideband O2 hooked up, do this in dyno so you know to back off when you are in danger area.

mmm im sayin no jus for the fact that u wont know where ur knock is at only ur max knock .
Without the datalogit your knock warning light is set at 60 and you cant change that with the commander and thats pretty high.

To get a complete and full tune I would say you would need to have the Datalogit. Without the Datalogit you miss a lot of things that the commander will not display. and like what celicarida said you cant see exactly where the knock is occuring at. I think it would be too hard to tune from scratch a map from the apexi basemap. You get to see the full 20x20 map with the Datalogit but I think with the commander you see just a 5x5 portion of the map at a time. I think the commander is usefull after you are done a full tune to make small changes, and for monitoring so you dont have to have a laptop in the car 24/7.

You can tune with commander, not tuned well like they said.
You can run with it but not run hard.

not only datalogit is more complete but it is way faster to tune with it. You can change a whole column in less than 5 seconds. It might be way more with the commander!! If your on a dyno at big $$$ per hour, you dont want to tune with commander!!!

you cant even access the basemap with the the commander and the apexi base map is way different than the mwr one.

Also man i paid the price tonight i cleaned my mafs 2 days ago n never reset my ecu or ran the car, today when i tried to start it man was it ever a bitch kept dieing

however inj map is accessible and the same thing can be achieved by the base map or by the inj map .. they both control gas injection on top of each others ..

yea but its alot more tuning if u dont have a basemap.
the apexi is far from being close to the mwr and say another 1-2 hours more tuning is needed

Sometimes parameter in PowerFC is locked therefore the commander can not change any settings, you can lock your settings for your PowerFC and nobody can mess with your map with a Datalogit. Most PowerFC I have seen do not have it locked, but if you are at a dyno and your commander will not change settings that is what it is.

where can I get datalogit? Is the wideband 02 a must?

You can get the datalogit at Monkeywrenchracing.com, and yes you do need a wideband o2 to tune properly.

Basically you're wasting your time trying to tune with a commander. Most things CAn be done, but without datalogging, you're basically taking stabs in the dark. It will take you forever, be incredibly frustrating and you'll still have a crappy tune.
