Ok, well my engine really acted yesterday, and i took it in a few days ago due to a rattle noise at high rpms and the revlimiter kickin in too soon, well they looked at it and hooked something up to my ecu outlet and it showed that despite what the tach was showing, i was redlining at 7900, so the tach was actually too slow, i have the indiglo gauges and the guy mentioned the possibility that that may have caused it. Anyways yesterday my car was dieing at every stop, and making a horrible noise when i was accelerating, so i took it in and they called back a few hours later and said that i have 0 compression in my 3rd cylinder! Then they said today that the tachometer is "fried", so they said they will take care of the enigine problem but they want $700 for a new tach. What should i do or say to get that 700 out of them, i called corporate already and they are gonna investigate.

Your f-ed man. They are going to blame the indiglos and they are probably right .

I hope not, my toyota image will be greatly damaged, i spend $27000 with the company and they can not spend $700, actually probally a total cost of some time and 200 in parts.

what part exactly are they saying is fried? the cluster? You can get the cluster for $344 for MT or $355 for AT. Definately WAY less than $700 at your dealer. You can also PM David Draper or Edrick from WC Toyota and ask them for their price.

so you're expecting for freebies because you have spent so much money with them? Although it would be a nice gesture on their part they have no obligation to give out free stuff to highpaying customers. Remember, they aren't senators :)

BTW, how many miles does the car have? 36k plan should cover the tac, but the 60k (or 100k, I can't remember) powertrain plan will not cover the tac.

It should be covered IF you hadn't added the indiglos. At that point they have no obligation because YOU CHOSE to change the gauge cluster.

My point is Toyota is happy to fix problems if they are not caused by intentional actions. Do you think if you slam you car into a wall Toyota should cover it? It's the same situation.

I'm not trying to be mean, but I dont see any reason for them to cover this at all. Call David Draper and get a decent price on the parts, but you definitely are going to have to pay for it.

2750 miles!! yeah thats right two thousand seven hundred and fifty
its an 02 i have had it for 1 1/2 monthes the reason they want me to do it is because they say the indiglos "COULD HAVE" caused it

and no i dont expect freebees but i expect fairness, they SHOULD fix it for free, or at least charge me a reasonable price for the tach, $700?? come on...kick me while im down

If you screw around with the cluster and then it messes up, how can you expect them to fix it? It's your fault

gts-j-town
04-12-2002, 01:16 PM
I didnt screw around with anything, a profession stero business did it, and toyota has yet to prove that the indiglo gauges caused the problem

They charge 700 bucks to try and discourage people from doing what you did. The dealership probably wants to keep its labor open for real issues. Maybe you should be mad at the "professional stereo" place for screwing up your gauge cluster rather than toyota?

wellnow, aren;t we the mature type- you asked a question, how can you get toyota to cover what your aftermarket modification most likely caused. We have given you the simple and complete answer-Toyota (and any other car company) has no obligation whatsoever to cover this, I am glad they don'y, because if they did attempt to cover every aftermarket induced failure, you would have payed a hell of alot more than 27000 (which-btw-you got ripped off on to start with)

btw-if your rude a55 still actually wants help-go to the stereo shop that installed your gauges and tell them toyota told you their install fried your gauges-research what warranty you have from the stereo shop on this, NOT Toyota

HEY HEY!!!
I gotta solution for you since you said toyota don't know that you had indiglo gauge.

1. Put your stock gauge on
2. Take your car to ur local dealer
3. They want $700? phuck them! its Under Warranty!!
4. Do it ASAP! As soon as possible!

wait a sec, I installed my own indiglos and it doesn't have anything to do with either the mechanical or electrical function of the tachometer. It's just a slip on sheet of indiglo that covers the stock cluster. The wiring only involves running some power and a ground.

Could they refuse to warranty work on the car simply because they know you took the cluster out to get the indiglos in there? Regardless of whether or not the indiglos have anything to do with the normal function of the gauge? Perhaps just blaming you for breaking it while it was out of the car? If so, that kinda sucks. :(

J-town... cool it! Or you'll be searching for a new place to bitch. If you mod your car you gotta deal with problems like these if things don't work correctly. Toyota has every right to make you pay if they can prove that you or something you had done to your car caused the problem.
