OK I'm trying to figure out if I should keep my Celica or lemonlaw and go for a WRX. I've had so much trouble with my Celica, but I really love that damn car.

The Celica is great, just a lot of problems for a 23k dollar car. I wouldn't even hesitate about keeping it if we had a better performance aftermarket.

this is a toss up, if u just wanna go fast go for the wrx, if u wanna be best in your class naturally aspirated 4cyl non-swap go wit the celi

neither.. i would go GTI1.8T
Tony01Gts
04-12-2002, 03:11 PM
1.8T still only outputs 180hp... WRX is 227 and awd
Tony01Gts

I hear ya. Get the WRX, unless you want to turn girls' heads with your car. Almost every girl I know loves my Celica, but thinks the WRX is ugly. Other than that, the WRX just kicks-ass in every way possible.

my question is. I thought with the lemon law, you had to have the same problem fixed 3 times. not different problems fixed? anyone know about this??

I've been looking for that post that linked to a black WRX but I can't find it. I'm sure you've seen it. Can you find it? You couldn't see the back which is the ugliest part of the car but the rest of it looked tight.

Remember Gurls like Celica and Gurls hate the look of WRX.
I know this for a FACT... gurls don't care about performance
if i was you.. ill ask toyota to fix my engine and transmission.
If you wanna fast car why don't you get a Mustang cobra or GT~
i know its hella faster than WRX. WRXs r fugly in my opinion but that black WRX on Turbo mag. looked tight..

I don't think that will get you lemon law, unless it has been in the shop for over 30+ days. They make a distinction usually that differentiates the severity of the repairs. Problems have to put you in danger if the part fails. You may be able to though, good luck.

things going for you if you buy a GTI 1.8T
GTI for 18,000msrp vs. 24,000msrp for a WRX
and its even cheaper opting for a base Golf with a 1.8T motor
4yrs/50,000miles warranty
better popularity looks (neglegible)
better fit and finish
chassy built in Pueblo mexico, however, the motor is built in Germania
The insurance will be MUCH cheaper. One of the few turbo cars with non turbo insurance rates
flash rom type mods with ridiculous gains

I'd get a WRX, got to sit in a 02 model Subaru WRX STI today at a local motor show. All I can saw is WOW! Brembo brakes, in cabin intercooler water spray button and packing 261Hp. Listed local price was about $27000 USD. So nice in WRC blue with gold factory issue 17 inch mags.
I love the Celica but getting the hunger for power.

Tony01Gts, I honestly don't think that your car is at all eligable to be lemoned under the lemon law. Every state does thier lemon law a little different, but their are some universal things. For example, in order to be eligable for the lemon law the manufacturer needs to fail to fix the same problem three consecutive times, which has not happend to your car. Your car needs to be in the shop for 30 days. Has it?
Also, the lemon law isn't some on going thing that you can just use anytime. Eventually, in the eyes of the law, your car will be too old and used to hold the manufacurer accountable for excessive problems. Like I said, every state is different on this. In New York, for example, the cutoff for the lemon law is 2 years or 18,000 miles. After 18,000 miles, you are on your own with no possable chance to lemon your car. In Massachusetts its 15,000 miles, in Illinois, its 12,000 miles. How many miles do you have on your car?
And as far as the misshift thing is concerned, I am sure that they know that you misshifted your car. Did you unhook your battery before they looked at it? If you didn't, there is a code in the ECU that tells them that you over revved your car. Not that they need it, it's pretty obvious to see that you misshifted from the damage, there isn't anything else I can think of that you could do to your car that would cause the same kind of damage a misshift causes.
Interior door panels and driver and passenger seat covers? How the heck did you get that covered under warrenty?! It sounds to me like your dealership is just being really nice to you to make you a happy customer. If you try to lemon your car because of the damage you did in your misshift, I don't think that they will be very nice any more.
I'm sorry if I sound mean right now, but I really dissagree with what you are going to try to do. There are a few things that are commonly wrong with the Celica, such as the belt tentioner, and Toyota has replaced it for you for free. Plus it sounds like you had something wrong with your fuel delivery, a problem like that is bound to happen every now and then when you are mass producing a car, and Toyota fixed it for you for free. In my opinion, Toyota has done what they needed to do to correct the problems that came with your car from their factory. I strongly feel that Toyota is not responsable for refunding you the entire purchase price of your car under the lemon law. Well I say too bad, if you want a WRX, just do what the rest of us do and sell your car to buy one. That is the reason you are interested in lemoning your car, because you want to get all your money back.

I'm with you there, man. I don't even need alot more power. 40-50 more hp, and the Celica would be the total package (styling, handling, quickness). If I could do it over again, I'd get the WRX though. Except for styling, the car is just the BEST in this price range without a doubt. Hell, and you don't need a nice-looking car to hook up with girls, right?;)

Chameleon... don't get me wrong... I really REALLY like my Celica. Toyota has been doing all they can to make me happy and they DAMN well should be. I bought my car in Jan 2001, and the interior is ROTTING (disintegrating) out of my car. I paid 700 bucks for some crappy toyoguard that was supposed to protect my interior and exterior from stains and now my interior is rotting??? The exterior paint is blotching. The car is ONE year old. That sounds like pretty crappy craftsmanship to me. Lemonlaw in Florida has to meet one of 3 requirements: 30 days downtime, same problem fixed 3 or more times, or overall poor craftsmanship (the hardest to prove). My point in possibly lemonlawing the car is... if its having this much trouble now at 1 year old and 22000 miles, how bad is it going to be a year from now, or after my warranty is up? My car will have had $10,000 worth of work done (warranty) after the engine is done (and they still haven't figured out what to do about the paint). The only reason the dealership is trying so hard to make me happy is because the service manager is a friend of a friend. If they weren't fixing all this stuff for me and I didn't know him I would've hired a lawyer already. Add the interior and exterior problems to the engine problems (besides the misshift) and it is pretty bad IMO. I am NOT lemonlawing my car because of the misshift! It's everything else. I was already thinking about it. The mis-shift is my own dumb fault and I am thankful they are covering it under warranty. On the other hand, I do think they sort of owe me after everything else!

if you want to look gay and go really fast stock, get the WRX.
If you want to look tight and go fast stock and even faster when F/I comes out, keep the celi.
Still the WRX is quick and AWD. If i had the chance i would get one.

My car is so eligible for lemon law.
They fixed it 4 times.. i still had a problem, filed a lemon law, South East Toyota said they sent Master Tech to Fix my car and what i heard from my dealer was that Master Tech never came, he just gave My local Mechs. directions through the phone. plus I gave them 2 more days to fix my car... she called me and begged me to give them more time so i did!...(That was My Final Repair)
I called her back last week complaining about my oil leak and missing Flexplate cover... Response i heard was so dirty... her voice had this careless sound to it... " i can't do anything for you~ how can i help you when i don't have your files"
*Bitch You know you got my files there! I gave her my VIN number, my address, my parent's name,my name and she can't find my files? oh!! her computer crashed... WOW how immature...
I posted all that shiet on here couple days ago.. and so many people flamed me... Do you know why i don't wanna fix my car.. cuz Tha Phucking Dealer blew me again today..
I'm Getting a phucking honda after i get rid of this car...at least honda people don't treat people like this.

You would NOT drive to WRX stock. I guess you hav'nt heard one with a aftermarket exhaust yet. I love the sound of the Boxer engine through the exhaust, it sounds tough. Its so easy to get power out of the car its not funny. I totally agree with you Keyshawn. I'd be looking for a AWD turbo. I creamed by pants almost when I got to sit in a Mitsubishi EVO VII yesterday.
I've been waiting forever for NA parts so the Celica could match the Honda S2000 in Hp levels. Its getting there albeit at a snails pace.

I dont care what anybody says. Besides the MRS the 2000 up Celicas are the best handling cars in their class and yes I have stomped on an Integra Type-R. If you just want to go fast and go straight then the WRX can do that. But no other car can touch the Celicas handling. Ultimately it

I'm Getting a phucking honda after i get rid of this car...at least honda people don't treat people like this.
Well, youre up for a big surprise, first of all Acura doesnt even cover misshifts, lickily for you, Toyota does. Also I have heard of so many people who have had problems with their Honda/Acura, and they will just simply say you were racing and will not cover, trust me I have a friend who blew his SI's tranny and Honda did not cover, he took them to court and lost. So my point is, every car has problems, at least for us Toyota has been more that helpful with covering misshifts=driver error. All I am trying to tell you is, dont buy a Honda thinking that they will cover anything and everything under warranty (no questions asked) and treat you like a king, good luck.

Well its a figure of cost. Spend less and get the WRX, be fast but not looks as good. Spend alot more on the celi look sweet, and be faster. Its all a matter of cost and your willing to wait. Me pesronally, i'm sick of waiting.

The WRX does not handle all that bad, its even AWD.
here are some specs:
2002 celica GTS
skidpad g 0.86
salom mph 63.6
2002 impreza WRX
skidpad g 0.84
salom mph 62.8
but celica's will always look better.

The WRX has way more power potential then the Celica does no doubt. The WRX comes with THREE catalytic converters... one before the turbo and two after. Take those out, throw on a decent exhaust, a few turbo upgrades (BOV, boost controller, bigger intercooler), and I bet you could spank 95% of anything on the road. And that is spending what like $1500 max? Celica you're gonna have to go F/I so at least $3500 if this turbo performance kit is any good... and then that will put you up to where the WRX would be with a few mods. But then you have to contend with FWD traction. Hmmm, but I would take a F/I celica over a WRX anyday... it's really a question of: will I ever have 3 or 4 grand to put into the car? Not likely, :(

You will have the three or four grand that you will save by not trading the celica in towards the WRX...

I am a Toyota man, I mean I love my Celica more then anything...but, Like others have said the celica has to many problems. I have already had my transmission replaced twice due to toyotas falty system, my fog lights come on when they want, my door squeaks, i got a new head i mean the list goes on. I am actually in the process of selling my car right now and i am getting a wrx so when i get it i will tell everyone if it was well worth it or not.....

Wow... this is a real debacle. Anyways, here is where I stand. Toyota has been world renouned for their reliability, excellent customer service, and world-class standard of quality. Look at all the work they've put into your car for you. If you do qualify for the lemon-law, why don't you just get yourself another GT-S Celi? You've said you love your Celi... As for the WRX... looks have grown on me, but the Celi says something about you... the styling is flat out radical and cool... how many times have you heard someone say about a WRX... "wow that just looks cool" and then how many have said that about a Celi?
Also, look at some consumer reports, the WRX is a hell of a performance/buck value, however, the interior vs. the Celi's interior... play with both, the WRX is far more biased towards performance as attested by the rather cheap looking/feeling interior. The WRX is a good balance of handling/speed, however, the Celi's handling is world-renouned, it has often been labeled the best front-driver in the world... and who can doubt that? Check out Motor Trend and Sport Compact's testing of both cars on the slalom... MT found a 61.3mph on the WRX while a Celi made 66.3mph and on SCC they made a WRX I think at like 68mph while the Celi did 69.9mph...
If you are considering a Honda... what other car is out there that compares to the Celi? The RSX-S? Um... the styling, so freaking bland! The K20C is a good engine and quicker in stock form than a 2ZZ-GE, but the rear suspension without the trailing arm in the RSX... umm... ouch. Toeing out attitude with wheels coming off the ground... braking distances 15ft longer in the RSX compared to the Celi when 60-0... Anyways....
It'll all come down to what you want, however. If you decide to lemon-law your car (assuming you can), I personally would stick with the Celi (or another one). I'm also a Toyota fan and will be the rest of my life. But, the best thing you can do is, test drive all the cars you are looking at, then research, research, research, then make your purchase. Find out what other people are having problems with on that car and any problems that will arise in the future.

You can say its we are gay all you want, but saying guys are gay because they drive a certain car is just as bad as dating a guy because of the car he drives. Maybe YOU should refrain from stereotyping people. The celica has plenty of performance to back itself up, and is great fun in the mountain roads, especially with a little bit of suspension work.

And BTW TRDSTREET, the Type-R owns a stock celica, and the Prelude SH does too in terms of handling. Its nice to be enthusiastic about the car, and I too love the way it handles, but it certainly isn't the best of all cars. Maybe of all NEW cars in its class, but that doesn't include the SH or the R.
