ok so i went to get my bumper fixed after a fender bender but it was a light tap..nothing mechanical..needed a new lip so they put it on since they ordered..

ok...so ok...for a 2000 Toyotca Celica GT-S ... where is the fuel cutoff...did they limit me...cuz i definitely get cut off at 7000RPMS...it doesnt go any higher..(gear in neutral and just revving) and i know i have taken it right to 7800-8000RPM before.

what is the deal here...you think they could have limited me last time..i know they are probably getting blown engines time to time so maybe everytime an unsuspecting celica owner goes in they change your fuel specs...

how can i find out so i can confront them..please let me know if you have heard of such things and what the cut off should be on a 2000 in neutral just revving or anything...im pissed.

also my engine sounds a little bit different than i remember... bit of a chirp.

I think the early limiter kicks in when you rev in neutral. Did you actually try to take it up to 8000 RPMs while driving? And was the engine warmed up (early limiter on cold engine, too)?

i get cut off at 7000 rpm when my engine is cold.. after 2-3 mins of driving.. you'll probably hit a lift... another noob question eh?
welcome to Celica world

well thats what i needed to know...

the other thing is..i know my engine sounds a little funny...i dont know engines though so i havent a clue what is wrong but i know something is wrong..doesnt sound as tight as it used to..like theres something loose..

its not quite a chirp..its not quite a rattle..its comeing from the left side of the engine bay if you standing in front of the car. what could come loose..definitely sounds like something that has lost tension or something... someone suggested a loose bearing in the alternator..seriously i dont know engines though so you guys who do are probably just thinking that there is no way to figure it out with actually looking or listening to it.

oh well..i still got warrany..dealer's on monday.

if the engine isn't warm.. why are u guys revving it so high?? damn.. man.. i NEVER rev it past 4k until the temp guage is two clicks over to the right..

and RARELY do i EVER go over 4k until the engine is fully warm..

seems like it'd hurt the engine to make it spin that fast without it being at optimum working temp

oh well..i still got warrany..dealer's on monday. Probably your belt tensioner. It can be replaced under warranty. There's a new replacement tensioner that's supposed to be better than the last one (which was a big problem with this family of engines). Having a damaged tensioner won't hurt the engine, but it will make an annoying rattling noise and eventually make the belt squeak.

whoa whoa..i never said i rev when the engine isnt warm...who would..its common sense not to.

yah..also i'd just like to say this board is pretty damn cool compared to the others. although i've had my celica since early 2000, ive just recently discovered these boards.

quite cool to have such a great community for your vehicle.

my friend has a civic..and he saw me posting on this and he's like damn your car has message boards!?!?!? : )

well that rattling sound is pretty normal*everybody experiences it
among toyota owners.
Yeah...Belt Tentioner and idling pretentioner need replacing.
My squeaks in the morning but i don't know how to prove it cuz that sound goes away when i get to my local dealer.
48,000 miles on my car.. can i fix that under warranty?

i hear people complain of rattles all the time...but i always thought they meant interior for some reason. so you guys all have rattles coming from your engine bay...man i hate rattles

yes becareful, it is important that you do not rev above 3500k-4000k until the engine is warm (temp at middle)
