View Full Version : Possible with Stock Head Unit?

I'm starting to work on a system (nothing too fancy, mind you, just a couple of subs for now!), and I'm not sure exactly how critical a new head unit is.
I'll be getting a new head unit, of course, but I'm wondering if I should get it first, or if the system will run with the stock HU for a few weeks...

Anyway, looking to get two 12" 400 RMS (recommended) subs
with a two-channel, 1,600 watt (max) amp.

So, will it work, or would there be an extensive amount of extra parts needed and wouldn't be worth the trouble?

Also, what features on a head unit might you suggest? (Like outputs and all that fun stuff ;) )

Thanks!

i recommend to get a new headunit which has a bit more features to easily control the different sound settings, it would be much easier & less wiring to hook the amp up to the new headunit which has the preamp rca outputs.

Would it not be possible to hook your amp up to your rear speakers using line level inputs provided with said amp? I have a GTS and was thinking about doing this soon to run a sub. Are they amplified and cause problems with line levels?

You can leave your stock stereo. You just have to bypass the stock amp and to make it sound better put bass blockers on your mids so when you control bass on your headunit it will only do your subs so your mids and tweeters dont get distorted.
